That's the big announcement? That dude? Huh. Alrighty. Lots of strange choices that this production is making.

I honestly never liked him on SNL so he’s not an appeal at all for me. One show I can save money on.
At this point, the only person I’m excited by is Michael Urie, because he’s talented and funny as hell and belongs on stage in everything.
I get that they fast tracked the revival because NEW YORK, NEW YORK ended up swimming with the fishes, but I feel like there is some missed opportunities here. My only hope is they pull an INTO THE WOODS and recast some roles throughout the run.
I just don't see this lasting long enough to warrant many cast replacements unless it surprises us on every level.
WOODS was a unique exception, not the norm. And none of the cast replacements in WOODS had anything close to the name value of Sara Bareilles.
I agree with the poster above who said the only saving grace is Michael Urie. And the fact that they’re teasing the reveals of all of it when the end result is so lackluster makes it worse. Just announce it and move on. Good luck to them.

Taran Killam may not be a huge draw, but hes incredibly funny and well suited to this. Clearly this production is not going for big names to draw audiences (or, they tried and failed), so this is welcome news.

Woof. Maybe in your opinion. I’d barely say funny, and definitely not “incredibly”.

ha ok, so Spamalot casts a legit comic actor, with a very long run on the most famous sketch comedy show in the world, with a run in Hamilton under his belt, and the reaction from the theater nerds is.... "hes not even that funny, sigh."
keep on whining y'all.
All this teasing for... this? I will never understand shows that tease "major" casting announcements when it's not anyone that noteworthy... Moulin Rouge! did this with announcing Natalie Mendoza a couple years ago.

“A legit comic actor” now THAT is funny.

Another way of looking at it is that some people choose to imbue these quick teases with weight and meaning as opposed to just seeing them as an attempt to attract and keep people's attention, the primary job of a social media manager. All sorts of stuff gets teased on social that in the end, really isn't much of a big deal.

Taran Killam will play Lancelot through January 9th, to then be replaced by Alex Brightman.
"Killam will portray Lancelot from the first preview on Halloween through Jan. 7, at which time Alex Brightman (Beetlejuice: The Musical, The Shark Is Broken) will take over beginning Jan. 9. Brightman originated the role of Lancelot in the Kennedy Center run that preceded this Broadway revival."

Killam will definitely be a nice addition but unfortunately it will not help ticket sales…and the St.James is way too big for this
I'd much rather see this with Killam than Brightman.

People also seem to forget Killam played the Dentist in the Encores Little Shop and people seemed to like him in that

Really hard to fathom what people expected here. They didnt get a high profile movie star!? Just a sketch comedian with musical theater experience in Hamilton and the Jake Gyllenhaal Little Shop production everyone loved?!
El-oh-el as usual.
What did Taran Killam ever do to y'all? He's not like, John Mulaney level famous as a comedian but he obviously enjoys doing theatre since he continues coming back to it. Personally I think it's very fun casting, and I'm looking forward to seeing him.

Oh, to be clear, I had no expectations of them getting a bigger name and didn’t really plan on seeing this anyway. I thought it hilarious that people thought Seth MacFarlane was being teased because, again, never got that from the Twitter.
some of y’all are so dramatic.
excited to see Killam though! He was great when I saw him in Hamilton and one of my favorite past SNL cast members!
Killam is great onstage. He may not be a breakout SNL star but he’s a very solid comedy performer and this is a great role for him.
The active rooting against this show is weird, particularly considering the aggressive optimism happening elsewhere on the board.
As someone who is a relative noob to the whole Broadway thing, I'm considering seeing Spamalot in January because I like the idea of seeing Christopher Fitzgerald, Michael Urie and Alex Brightman in one show.
With the full cast announced today, I'm curious who the understudies are? James Monroe doesn't exactly have a solid attendance record.

Sort of surprised by the apparent lack of enthusiasm for this show. Pulled up some dates for an upcoming trip and the theater appears to be wide open.

Because the OBC had Magic. This looks lackluster. Same stuff different day.
