Oh! That'll be wonderful! Some friends and I were trying to cast the film - guessing what Burton might do - and we threw Helena Bonham Carter out there as a Mrs. Lovett possibility, but weren't sure if she could sing. I suggested Ms. Streep, as well, but some thought she'd seem to old next to Johnny Depp. I'm glad the powers-that-be didn't think so! I LOVE HER.
I always thought it would be more likely that Carter might turn up as The Beggar Woman (who doesn't really need to be a good singer). I do know Sondheim wanted Lovett to be older than Sweeney for the film; Streep's casting would certainly make me feel a lot more confident in the entire film.
With her amazing and successful box office turn in "Devil", this is perfect timing for Streep and Depp to carry this film to box-office gold. We need another glorious big screen musical hit after the flops of Phantom and RENT.

"I want to meet him after and bang him!"-random woman who exposed her breasts at Rock of Ages, referring to James Carpinello
I just did a happy dance in my seat without moving. This is great news. I have high hopes that the combination of Streep and Depp and the always-fascinating art direction of Burton will result in quite a good rendering of Sweeney on film!
Grrl...if this is a hoax, I'm a gonna wring your neck!
FANTASTIC! This is the best news I've heard in quite awhile.
"Carson has combined his passion for helping children with his love for one of Cincinnati's favorite past times - cornhole - to create a unique and exciting event perfect for a corporate outing, entertaining clients or family fun."
Why would the person who started this thread be asking for a link to confirm it? Sounds fishy to me! (I hope it's true, though. She would be brilliant!)

“I hesitate to give this line of discussion the validation it so desperately craves by perpetuating it, but the light from logic is getting further and further away with your every successive post.” <<>>

I find it very hard to believe that Grrl would post this without some knowledge, it's not her style...yet I still do NOT want to be disappointed.

Nothing about any movie is official until filming starts. And sometimes not even then. If it's true, though, at least one element of this film has some promise.
I don't quite think this is official...I believe Depp has yet to even get the OK from SS to *do* the movie at all, so let's not count our meat pies before they're baked, eh?
I think she'd be...interesting, though, in the role.
(I PERSONALLY would have Midler do it.)
Suzanne: I never use catalogs. I'd rather go in the store and see all the salespeople groveling and sucking up to you.
Julia: Pardon me, I never knew they were so solicitous at the K-Mart.
