So a friend from FL is visiting me this weekend and since he is a schoolteacher, we both opted to watch SCHOOL OF ROCK last night --- and it was better than what we expected! :)
I actually think this show is quite underrated on Broadway since none of my friends have seen it (we're all in our early 30s) and people who seem to watch it are those who loved the movie or those who are going with their kids. Even on the TKTS line yesterday, a lot of the 'lobbyists' giving out pamphlets of their shows tried to talk us out of watching School of Rock and watch Newsical or Matlda instead. Well I'm glad we stuck to our guns and watched School of Rock.
If you've seen the movie, then you know the story. If you have not, it's surprisingly good! One of the reasons we chose this show was from watching Alex Brightman's video blog from broadway.com. If you haven't seen them already, here is episode 1 (there are a total of 8 episodes):
We laughed. We cried. We were entertained and I felt every single dollar I spent was well worth it given Alex's, Sierra's, and the kids' performance. I definitely felt Alex deserved that Tony nomination. Wow. What a performance!
I know Sierra is leaving August 8th so try and go see within the next 2-3 weeks. For those who have read my posts on the Hamilton cancellation line, I'm not really a fan of RRT given their handling of the cancellation line. Well, over here at the Winter Garden theater, I had an issue with my seat due to a glare from one of the candlelight on the side that had to remain lit due to fire safety codes. The usher led me to the house manager and the manager listened to my issues and put me in a box seat on the other side of the theater. I was truly grateful and appreciative on how they handled my minor issue and overall had a great experience. Mind you the last time I was at the Winter Garden was back in the 90s to see CATS with my family (never saw Mamma Mia on Bway.)
Does anyone know whether Alex still brings doughnuts to the rush line on Sundays?

Ah ok -- that makes sense. I ask only because in the epsiode 4 of his video blog back in January he stated he would do it for Sunday matinee rush line.
This episode has scenes from his PT session too, which was interesting!
Saw this back in January...and really wasn't so into it. Saw an understudy, who is no longer with the show.
Decided to go back tonight, and was really excited to finally see Alex Brightman in this role. I was SO much more into it this time. The energy is incredible. It's a great show to be taken away, and not taken too seriously, which is what we all need sometimes. The kids in it are really incredible.
Was totally sold out tonight (from what I saw). I really am happy i went back tonight and gave it another shot. This is one that shouldn't be missed.
I don't know offhand but you can try tweeting him and asking him. Since there is no show on Thursday and no Wed evening show, my gut feeling thinks he'd be there but who knows?
My son and I are in town for a theatre workshop, and my daughter is joining us Thursday afternoon- they both really want to see SOR, but we are on a budget. Two questions - how early do we have to get in line on Friday or Saturday to rush SOR, and will they let my daughter buy a ticket (she's 15- we need 3 tickets total)?

I agree with 100086sunset. Each person in the rush line can only buy up to 2 tickets max. The box office & telecharge do sell $59 tickets as well. Not sure if that's in your budget but since there are 3 of you and only 1 person waiting in line for rush, I suggest buying one $59 ticket and 2 rush tickets so all three of you can go see school of rock. Yes you won't be seated together but at least all of you are watching the same performance.
I guess I didn't word that right - she and I will both be in line - just wanted to make sure the two of us would be able to buy 3 tickets - looks like we are going to give it a shot.
