All remaining tickets to Scott Rudin shows for performances from March 12-29 will be priced at $50. Including West Side Story, Mockingbird, Lehman, Mormon, and Virginia Woolf. Shame Music Man isnt open yet lol.
Seems like a pretty wild, unprecedented (?) move. Obviously a sales tactic, probably to counter Coronavirus concerns. But his statement also emphasizes accessibility to the arts and entertainment during troubled times.

Hardly a novel thought, tbh, these next few months are indeed going to give untimely deaths to a number of shows. We'll see who can figure out a way to withstand the blow.
I have to admit, I was hoping the bargain price went into April, which is my next trip.
I'm sure there are many other shows that will follow suit.

Will I risk pandemic for cheap tickets? Absolutely!
(But in all seriousness, I have many concerns, especially as a healthcare professional)

I’m also in a relatively low risk group, but working in a healthcare setting always gives me some pause.

Posted: 3/10/20 at 10:57amPerfect! I've purchased a $12 RT Flixbus ticket for the 28th and will now scope out WSS on Thursday for a seat. I hadn't planned on seeing this until later, if at all. Thanks, Mr. Rudin.

COVID-19 is an asymptomatic virus, so you can carry it without ever getting sick. The older population is more prone because they are more likely to have medical conditions that are vulnerable to the virus.

So the argument there is basically saying the young have to take precautions so the old can live their lives unencumbered? I’m sorry, but if anything it should be the baby boomers getting the refunds, as they are the ones high risk. Heard immunity only works if the weakest of the heard isn’t actively going into high risk situations. As this virus is asymptotic in most middle age and under, especially children, its on those who are high risk to take the precautions necessary.

I am guessing Disney, Harry Potter, Moulin Rouge, and the non profits might follow suit. The long runners just need to stem the losses temporarily in hopes that the market recovers, and thus they can recover their temporary losses. Disney productions would be perfect I am sure for optics it would be better to play at 95% capacity the next month or so and a $100k loos a week, then be playing to 600-70% capacity with the same loss. Add to that the merchandising at Disney productions is where they can really make bank, so they can recoup some if their ticket sale losses by selling Anna, Elsa, and Jasmine Dolls and dresses.
Same model would work for Harry Potter and its giant merch store. Moulin Rouge is just so expensive to run that it need packed houses to simply to to justify any losses.
The nonprofits on the other hand just need some sort of cash income.

I think the argument is "don't go to the theatre if you're sick." Age doesn't matter. Just don't go if you're not feeling well so that you can A, get better, and B, not infect others.

I have March 12th bookmarked on my calendar. I really hope it's all seats will be priced at $50 (including center orchestra).

What a staggeringly ignorant and self-centered thing to write -- I've seen way too much of this on industry boards today. If you have the virus, even if you are largely asymptomatic, you're shedding it and can easily infect others. We're dealing with a virus that is highly transmissible - one infected person gives it to an average of three others. So yeah, right now, if you have the sniffles, stay the hell home and take precautions not so "the old can live their lives unencumbered" but so that they DO NOT CATCH YOUR MILD VIRUS AND END UP IN INTENSIVE CARE OR DIE FROM IT and so that the doctors, nurses, EMS staff, and others who are always on the front lines of battle don't get sick either. But guess you don't have parents, grandparents, or friends in the healthcare field you care about more than your theatre tickets.

Another thing to consider is that Rudin's shows aren't really struggling, I mean before this, they were close to sold out for the month. So it's a nice thing, but really more free publicity so their numbers will look good from the last-minute cancellations. That said, I plan to take advantage of it.

Obviously you're young and healthy, so I can understand your enthusiasm, but as an older man who died on the operating table one year ago, I'm laying low until I get the All Clear from Gov Cuomo. I do hope the shows I want to see are still running but if there're not, c'est la vie. I'm not in the mood for dying again just now.

I'm an ostrich about this virus and certainly no chicken. I've had 2 death sentences[one was bronchial pneumonia], have read enough to keep track of world situations and it's spread, but am I going to continue as normal? You bet.
I have no need to change my hygiene routine, I am off to Thailand in 2 weeks and Bali in June and have tickets booked for 3 shows and would jump on a cruise ship tomorrow if my schedule permitted.
I am elderly[healthy], vulnerable and out there, but that's me and we all have choices.
Before anyone goes 'selfish etc' I know what to do if I show The Signs.
