First preview is tomorrow, February 19th.
Is anyone going? Really hope the feedback is good for this one, as I'm excited for it, and it will be the first show in my upcoming theater trip this April.

Intermission. Soooo good. It's extremely well done for a first preview. The cast is awesome! I got my doubts about Zachary Levy, but he sings very well. I love the staging and the dance scene for "A Romantic Atmosphere" was a hoot!! Very charming show! I've never heard it or seen it before, so I can't make any comparison with previous cast/production. But I have so much fun so far! :)

Just got out. This is such a charming, delightful, and lovely production. I may post more comprehensive thoughts later, but this is romantic musical comedy at its finest and will only get better.

Well, I just got home from the first preview of She Loves Me, and I am on cloud nine, and I think I will be for the remainder of this weekend. Roundabout has really delivered the goods with this one. The production is an absolute delight in every single way possible.
The casting for this looked great when it was announced, and they are all TRULY great in this. The only thing is that I did not know they would be THIS great. Absolutely stellar performances all around. Gavin Creel and Jane Krakowski’s number is splendid. The two true stars of the evening are Zachary Levi and the beyond talented and beautiful Laura Benanti. Both of them capture their characters perfectly and have just the right amount of charm and comedic touch.
I have always loved Laura Bennati, and this was my first time seeing her live. Her performance in this is by far my favorite performance I have seen an actress give so far this season. She SLAYED it. Vanilla Ice Cream was one the MANY standout songs that she delivered over the course of the evening. It was such a treat to finally see her performing live.
The design elements are top notch. This is a gorgeous production. The set, costumes, and lighting are all exquisite and it does not look like a dime was spared in the physical production.
She Loves Me is musical comedy heaven. This revival is pure gold in my book. I would go so far as to say it is sheer perfection, and I am sure it will get even more perfect throughout the preview period. This is the last musical revival to open this season (unless Shuffle Along is considered a revival). Having seen all the revivals this season including Spring Awakening, Dames At Sea, The Color Purple, Fiddler on the Roof, and now She Loves Me, I can without a doubt say She Loves Me is my favorite (and this is coming from someone who LOVED Fiddler). This production is simple marvelous, and I can not recommend it enough.

Some people voiced misgivings about the sets in another thread earlier, but I have to say the sets- which are prominently influenced by art nouveau- are gorgeous and easily the best musical sets I've seen Roundabout utilize in some time, including the much-discussed On the Twentieth Century sets. Roundabout clearly had a nice budget for this production.

You guys made my night. I basically planmed a trip to NY around this, seeing it next Friday and though I didn't think I could be more excited about it, you guys made me even more excited about seeing it in a week.

If Shuffle Along doesn't end up being eligible as a revival, the Tony nominators will only be given three slots to fill out for Best Revival of a Musical as there would be a total of five eligible musical revivals this season. A fourth nomination would still be possible if there is a close race between two shows in the nominating process.
So could She Loves Me end up getting into Best Revival of a Musical over Spring Awakening?

I have said many times on this board how I absolutely adore this musical. It has been one of my favorites since childhood and it is truly the most enchanting and charming piece of work you can possibly imagine...and this production more than lives up to its potential. I think it'll only improve more as the weeks continue.
I know some questioned the set from the previously released pictures but I felt it was gorgeous. The little quirks they had in addition to simple but often elegant lighting was wonderful.
They have a great cast here! Zachary Levi, whom I originally felt might have been TOO handsome for the role, delivered quite well. I was very impressed with him and would like to see him continue his musical career.
McGrath, Barasch, Jennings, and Bartlett all did lovely work. Bartlett in particular killed as the Headwaiter and that whole sequence was hilarious.
Gavin Creel was in fine form tonight and his two big songs were great. As has been said already, "Illona" was wonderfully staged.
Lastly, the two ladies:
I have always loved Jane Krakowski and she was certainly a highlight of the production for me. Her "I Resolve" was my favorite I've heard and she also killed A Trip to the Library.
LAURA. FREAKING. BENANTI. She is so beautiful and charming and hilarious and lovable in this. Her voice sounds as lovely as ever and it was a joy to be able to see her in this.
This whole cast works so well together that I really couldn't believe it was the first preview.
My boyfriend, who isn't really a musical person in the slightest, enjoyed himself though not to the extent I did.
I cannot be more pleased with it and I hope it gets the rave reviews it deserves.

She Loves Me!!!
What a night! She Loves Me seems to be one of those rare shows that almost every musical theater lover I know adores. The fact that the score is brilliant and effortlessly develops plot and/or character at each turn is never in dispute and the book is cleverly crafted to boot. So I guess the real question can this 50+ year old musical that has been recorded and performed so often that most of us know it by heart still provide a thrill with this new production? The answer for me is a resounding yes.
Laura Benanti, extraordinary woman that she is, is giving a career re-defining performance as Amalia. I've never heard her produce a more beautiful tone than what I heard at Studio 54 tonight. I think Gypsy was a turning point in her career and then everything after has been on a crazy upward trajectory. I believed her Rosabella to be the peak of radiance, but she bested herself tonight. Will He Like Me? was sublime; Dear Friend thrilling; Where's My Other Shoe a comic delight; Vanilla Ice Cream a Tony-worthy triumph.
Zachary Levi was more self-assured here than in First Date, but given the wretched material he had to contend in his previous Broadway no wonder he felt more relaxed. You don't have to work twice as hard with half with payoff when you songs like these to sing! I think he will only get better as time goes on.
Roundabout has assembled a supporting cast to be reckoned with as well. Krakowski is very funny as Ilona and Trip to the Library, my favorite song in the show, was wonderful. Creel is really sinking his teeth into Kodaly and both his big numbers were met with hearty applause. McGarth and Jennings do well by Sipos and Maraczek.
The real discovery of the night is Nicholas Barasch as Arpad who slayed Try Me and stole every moment he was on stage. I hope he is remembered come Tony time for a featured actor nomination.

I was there tonight and honestly thought it was perfection. A truly perfect evening of theater. Laura Benanti, I'd like to chair her TONY committee now. She is giving such a fantastic performance and has wonderful chemistry with Zachary Levi. I thought Levi was charming in First Date even if the material didn't match his talent. Here he really shines (and nice Cartwheel!) here.
Jane Krakowski is hysterical and really makes the most of her numbers and Michael McGrath does some great work as well.
The SET is truly a stunner. I understand it may have come from the previous version of the show, but I don't care. It serves the show so well and got its own applause tonight.
Overall this is one of my favorite offerings this season. I can't wait to return as I think it will only imrpove.

Is this just a musical house? I'm surprised Act of God and Therese Raquin couldn't sell this theater out, but something so old and seen like She Loves Me (not a review, I haven't seen it, and I'm sooooo excited to see it) can sell well in this theater is surprising to me!

Oh I am so excited to see this in April! I can hardly wait. About 5 years back when I started seeing more shows I told myself I would no longer listen to cast recordings I hadn't heard if I thought it likely I'd get to see the show--the reason being I found myself somewhat more enthralled and experiencing everything with fresh eyes and ears. Well after reading how EXCITED you all were about this "close to perfect" musical I have been soooo tempted. But now I'm so glad I didn't as I can't wait to discover this and experience the joy for the first time!
I am a hopeless romantic at heart but a cynic in practice and I am 100% sure I am going to adore this.

True, but it still wasn't a sell-out hit. I would have thought Knightly would have been a hot ticket, but she wasn't. Is it the location, lack of advertising, etc? Just surprised, when looking for She Loves Me tickets, that it is selling so well.
I've never seen the show and really only heard the title song, so I really want to see this!
