True, but it still wasn't a sell-out hit. I would have thought Knightly would have been a hot ticket, but she wasn't. Is it the location, lack of advertising, etc? Just surprised, when looking for She Loves Me tickets, that it is selling so well.

I've never seen the show and really only heard the title song, so I really want to see this!

"So could She Loves Me end up getting into Best Revival of a Musical over Spring Awakening?"

That's most likely what will happen. Don't be surprised.

So glad to hear it's wonderful.

Also can someone explain to me the broadway kid 2 phenomenon of quoting a post and not adding any comment? Wtf?

Agreed with everything else said here. The only word that comes to mind is "charming". That basically describes this production from beginning to end!

So as not to repeat what's already been said, I'll just give the quick stage door update (which I'm sure is a question that will be coming up soon). The Zachary Levi dance party stage door is back! He was the first of the leads to come out around 10:55 (the show ended at 10:35) and he brings along his speaker and an endless amount of energy. I only stuck around until about 11:20, but he was still out there ensuring that every last person that wanted an autograph or picture, got one.

Jane Krakowski came out around 11:10, signed for a handful of people, took a couple pictures and left. She seemed surprised with the energy that Levi was bringing out there.

Unfortunately, I had to leave before Laura came out, but there were still a decent amount of people hanging out.

Pretty perfect for a first preview, I'm sure it will get even better, though I have no idea how that could really happen!

Knightley aside, Therese Raquin is not such a well-known literary title that it would drive people to the box office in droves. Plus, the mixed reviews probably didn't help. She Loves Me, in contrast, doesn't have a star on her level (though Levi, Benanti, and Krakowski aren't exactly unknowns) but it's a decently well-known show, and I imagine most fans of musicals have at least heard a few of the songs. So that could be an explanation for higher ticket sales.

I'm thrilled to hear this is excellent. I think this musical is so sweet and charming, and it's great that all involved seemed to have gotten it exactly right. I cannot wait to see this in April.

I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

Yes thank you! It's been irking me for a while.

I think it's a really exquisite musical. The only thing that leaves me unsatisfied is the ending. I'd been waiting for a grand finale since I understood what was really going on, and it was very early, like two or three songs into the show. However, it ended up, IMHO, quite abruptly and didn't have the level of energy the other parts of the show delivered. I hope in the final version they will fix this, and, if so, will definitely bring friends to the show.

I've never seen She Loves Me (though I adore the score) and this has been my most anticipated show of the season, because of the exciting cast, but mostly because of everyone's genuine enthusiasm for it here! I'm seeing it Wednesday and now I'm truly breathless with anticipation.

Well... the show is being performed as written, and it is not written with a grand finale. They can't and won't change that.

I was at the first preview as well and was blown away. Laura was radiant and Zac Levi was great as well. Great cast, score, set, and orchestra. Can't wait to go back!

Oh, wow! Great to hear the raves! Is it also possible for Laura beating Cynthia for Best Leading Actress?

After reading all your glowing reviews I decided to check for HIPTIX, assuming I would have no luck! However I got a seat for Wednesday March 2nd, there were total of 17 HIPTIX available for that performance. Just a heads up to anyone who has not gotten them yet, give it a try!

Oh, please hurry April 2nd, when I can not only see this show, but also surround myself with theater, good friends and food once again.

I'll be waking up early to catch a 7:30 AM flight out of Chicago to NY, landing around 10:30, checking into my hotel, then seeing the 2 PM performance.  Please let there be no delays or cancellations.  I do not want to miss this show.  I know it's always a gamble booking a show right away after a flight, but I can't help myself.

From what you guys are saying, Laura is reinventing Amalia. That's the reason she got her Tony for "Gypsy" - she took apart the character and put her back together with a beautiful, poignant nuance. If you guys are as genuine as you're saying, she could be a front runner. Against Cynthia, of course. How exciting!!

I am seeing this this coming week and am beyond delighted to read these raves.  It is my favorite all time musical.  The energy and pure bliss of the last Roundabout concert was, however, something I didn't think had a chance of ever being recreated.  These advance notices give me hope.

Many are wondering if this could possibly win best revival over Spring Awakening.  This question surprises me as I thought, at least up until now, The Color Purple was the one to beat.

I felt the same way during Ellis's otherwise lovely last revival 20 years ago.   (by the way, will Ellis be tony-eligible for directing this revival?  I assume so since it's a completely new revival, right?)

Kad responded "Well... the show is being performed as written, and it is not written with a grand finale. They can't and won't change that."

My own feeling is that the problem isn't exactly in the text.   It's challenging to make the ending in this show the melt-in-your-heart moment it needs to be.  But it's far from impossible.   A lot has to do with our expectations of - SPOILER ALERT - just how extraordinarily blissful it will hit us when Georg and Amalia finally unite.

Lightning struck in the concert version.   Radnor and O'Hara nailed the final scene!   The audience left walking on air.  The two stars knew exactly what was required to make the comedy, pathos and desire simmer into the musical ecstasy stratosphere at that final moment.   The scene presents an almost alchemical problem for two actors.  But from everything being said about all that Levi and Benanti are doing right in this revival, there's room for optimism that lightning can strike twice.  As they acclimate during previews, further hone their Second Act arcs and start to really feel each other and the audience in those pivotal but delicately demanding final moments of the show, perhaps they'll find something like the magic that Radnor and O'Hara did.

If not, then, from everything that's being said from the first preview-nighters on this thread, maybe we'll just have to settle for perfection without being transported to ecstasy.

Spring Awakening is now closed, so it would never have a chance of winning. I also wouldn't count out Fiddler on the Roof.

If Arthur Laurents earned two Tony nominations for directing two different revivals of Gypsy, I'm sure Scott Ellis will be eligible.

Jeffrey, I'm not counting out anything.  And I loved this season's Fiddler.  But the extraordinarily positive reviews and word of mouth for Color Purple (which I've yet to see) couldn't help suggest to me that of all the revivals that have already opened (everything but She Loves Me and potentially Shuffle Along) it had the best Tony chances.

I think this is shaping up to be another strong year for musical revivals. I also just got to listen to the new Color Purple cast recording yesterday, and it definitely sounds like a great contender!

As for it being the frontrunner, Sam Eckmann posted on the Gold Derby message boards that he spoke with a few Tony voters who really didn't care for the staging. That may not be great statistics, but it is something to keep in mind.

Best Revival of a Musical will definitely be an interesting and competitive category this year. The Color Purple will definitely be nominated. After seeing She Loves Me last night, I can not imagine it not getting nominated. I think the third slot will be between Fiddler and Spring Awakening.

Please keep in mind that a fourth slot is possible if there is a close race between two shows in the nominating process.

Though if Shuffle Along ends up being eligible as a revival, then the nominators will be given four slots to fill for Best Revival of a Musical as there would be six eligible productions this year.

Totally excited about this.  Have wanted to see this musical since hearing the cast recording from the Boyd Gaines version of the show.  Thanks for all the reviews!

The previous revival by Ellis eliminated "Tango Tragique." Can anyone who's seen the new production tell me whether it's included this time?
