Re: merch, they had 3 or 4 t-shirt designs,a hooded sweatshirt, hats, lapel pin, magnet, magnetic poetry type magnet set, keychain, and a stein. I was a little sad they didn't have the windowcards for sale. I should have popped into the box office upon exiting the subway since they were apparently handing some out upon pickup, but I already had my ticket in hand and expected them for sale. Merch stand thought they'd be for sale tomorrow.
I'd expect other items will be added, the glass cases in front looked quite bare.

I loved this. You can really feel a surprise hit coming with this show. It has crowd pleaser written all over it.
One of the best surprises is the score. Coming out of the theater, I could sing you at least three songs in the show, which is such a rare thing these days. The music is tuneful and catchy.
Brad Oscar's song truly does stop the show as others have mentioned. Can we PLEASE PLEASE have this open the Tony's this year? If that wasn't a production number made for the Tony's then I don't know what is.
My only real complaint is with Heidi Blickenstaff's character. Right now it just doesn't work. She is such a brilliant actress, and is always so funny, but her material right now lets her down. The part is a bit of a stick in the mud of an otherwise delightful show.
Brian D'arcy James is a great anchor for the show, and in great voice as always. Christian Borle is hysterical and I loved his "dance war" with Brian D'arcy James.
There are so many lavish production numbers I started to loose count. Overall, I can see this running for a long, long time (Hello school groups!), and it is definitely a show that will tour very well.
I think this could absolutely give Fun Home (which I also love) a run for that Tony. See it now while you can.

Posted: 3/24/15 at 12:17amThe theater "in jokes" are also so accessible. So non-theater nerds won't get the CHESS joke. They'll get the CATS joke, the ANNIE joke, etc etc. Its not like you need an extensive knowledge of theater to get the humor or to laugh. The in jokes aren't the only jokes the show has up its sleeve.

^ Right. The jokes truly are very accessible.
There are lots of Shakespeare jokes too, and those will be easy to get for all. The one about Shylock/Merchant of Venice is particularly funny.

Lamesvile, USA. A succession of none-too-funny puns, double entendres, in-references. I chuckled a few times, but hilarity is notably absent. The first act is animated enough; the second just goes belly-up.. The music is easy enough on the ears, though there's nothing I would pine to hear again. There were sound problems which hampered understanding of all the lyrics.
The cast works hard. Brian d'Arcy James had a far more rewarding role in Hamilton.
The design is serviceable.
This is turning out to be quite a disappointing season on Broadway.

$60 for the hoodie. The plain magnet was $10 (I think the poetry sheet was, too), keychain $15, stein $20, the shirts were in the $30-$40 range but can't recall exact prices.

Posted: 3/24/15 at 12:41amI was at the first preview as well, and agree with the consensus that this is a hysterical show and the sleeper hit of the season! Act One is near perfect, and although I agree with some of the previous comments that Act Two doesn't maintain the momentum and polish, it's an overall very strong show. Brad Oscar is the frontrunner for the Featured Actor Tony Award. "A Musical" will surely be the musical highlight of the season!

Strange as this may seem to you, I don't go to a first preview, or any performance, for that matter, with the desire or expectation of suffering through it.
I actually hope I'm going to witness a masterpiece.

Thing about comedy, I think it's hard to find a consensus with comedy than with drama. So I see why some would find this how very funny and a few not so much.
I am heartened to read that some find this show better than Spamalot which was overrated in my opinion.
I'm seeing the show on Saturday and can't wait.

Copperfield2 - all three times I've used TDF to see a show at this theater I was seated in the Orchestra. I can't speak for this show, of course (and it IS always a gamble) but I hope you get decent seats for your visit!
