I know you shouldn't comment on a dress rehearsal, but I went this evening, F*CK, this was a home run, Fun Home might have just lost best musical, easily the next Book Of Mormon, funny, smart, catchy, top to bottom well done!
To both of you above, I echo your thoughts exactly. This is a smash right out of the gate-For what Casey Nicholaw acknowledged was the first time running the show without stopping, this was one of the most fun nights I've had at the theater in a long time, and people who read these board will really get a kick out of this show.
I second the Playbill request from anyone seeing the show in the near future.
Wow, what great early reports! I had a good feeling about this show ever since I first heard its premise. I know that's not always a good sign of a great show, but this time, I am glad my instinct may have been correct.
Really looking forward to the preview responses now, and for actually seeing this show on April 30th!
Not wanting to fully comment on last night's dress, I'll save most of my thoughts until Monday Night when I'll be at first preview. That being said, This was one of the most enjoyable nights I've ever had in the theatre. The time seemed to practically fly by and most of the people there could not stop laughing for the duration of the show. Casey Nicholaw has done it again and the material is super strong as are performances. I can't wait to see it again tomorrow and there are very few shows I would see again this rapidly. We knew this was going to be good, but we didn't know how good.
To those who attended the invited dress, am I right in thinking I should jump on using that discount code that's out now? This seems to be playing out exactly like The Book of Mormon, and I wasn't smart enough to jump on tickets for that very early in the run when I had the opportunity to.
I would jump on it right away.Several people around me last night already said they were going home to purchase more tickets. I think it will become a tough ticket to get. I would also recommend front mezz for this one due to it's huge numbers. That's where the production team was seated last night.
For those of you who are seeing the show early Im curious to know if it falls somewhere around Spamalot - Book of Mormon - Drowsey Chaperone in its humor and presentation or is it its own animal with nothing to compare it to? The clips felt like it had elements of camp, vaudeville, burlesque, very in your face funny.
It started just after 7:30 and I remember looking at my phone at 10:12-- but I think I had been out of the theatre for a few minutes by then? So I'm pretty sure it was right around 2 hours and 30 minutes.
Dang....I was hoping to see this with my kids, as a double feature with Hamilton, so, obviously that would be July. Discounts, obviously don't go that far out.
I hate the idea of missing out on a bargain!
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
