That's great that they have the SF pictures up here now! I'd only seen about half of those so that's really great (I also have maybe three publicity stills of this cast that they didn't put up). Go check them out if you haven't everyone!
Oh. Thanks. See, you said "they" and I went right to the Spelling Bee site. Then again, I guess that's giving too much credit to an official site, as is often the case.

I saw it 3 months ago- it was cute and witty but then the "i love you song" is really moving if you haven't, go see it :)
"No two shows are alike in the making. Each show is a living
piece of your life in a small unreal world with its own character
and integrity; its own new set of memorable experiences and
incredible happenings. You begin to love and adapt to its strangeness.
Dreams harden into substance. Values come into focus. You wish
it would never end. The dream world vanishes like mist before a
rising sun; part of you vanishes with it. And back you land in the
real world with a thud- fogged, uneasy, jittery, difficult to get
along with. There is only one cure. A new show. A new, small
unreal world; new visions, experiences, incredible happenings.
Again you love it, adapt to it, wish it would never end.
But end it does. Another part of you vanishes.
That's show business."-Anonymous
Ok this cast looks great but I have to say it frustrates me to no end that Rona isnt a larger woman. She should be a very full figured woman, like most Elemetary School teachers are. I know that it is unrealistic to expect another Lisa Howard, but she just doesnt seem right to me.
On another note, can someone please tell me how the San Francisco show is set up? I am guessing that they dont that 3 sided set up like Circle in the square so how does it work? Is it all just up a stage like a normal show? Are there no longer the bleacher seats or the seats on the court? How do the differences in venues change the show and its interactivity (I.E. The opening of the Bee or the Jesus scene)? I am just very interested in how this all works.
"The hallmark of aristocracy is responsibility. Oh brother, that got me, that did me in!"
In New York, the stage is on the bottom in the middle of the theater with seats all around it on 3 sides. There are also seats in the center dirrectly before the stage and the first 2 rows of these are made to look like low rise bleachers. Its hard to describe but I hope you understood what I meant.

Yeah, the Post Street Theatre is a fairly typical theatre (it's on the small side though).

First of all, Betsy Wolfe hits all the notes powerfully and skillfully so I don't see why it's a problem that she's smaller than Lisa. Also, Rona isn't an Elementary School teacher, she's a realtor.
Oh and about the opening. Chip runs down the middle aisle after Rona spells. Then Logainne comes down the middle & Leaf runs up from the left aisle and dives onto the stage. The other kids come in from the back. At Panch's entrance, he walks down the right aisle with the flag and Mitch enters from the center aisle. I hope that makes sense.
No, it's fine DRG - you're entitled to your own opinion. I just wanted to tell you that Betsy does a wonderful job as Rona and can do all that Lisa can (at least from what I know of Lisa).
I assume that they know her because she's hosted the Bee so many times in a row. I'm not really sure. She does state that she's a realtor, the host, & a former spelling bee champ. I've never heard her say she's a teacher..
That he does Lizzie. Hehe, one of my favorite things is the Panch moment when he flips out because I never know what Jim's going to say.
I haven't seen Betsy in Bee, but I know she has a magnificent voice. She was a finalist in the first Wicked singing contest and I saw her at the first auditions. She sang No Good Deed and she sounded as if she could've been on stage at the Gershwin singing it. I wish her the best of luck and the rest of the cast.
I'm excited...Spelling Bee recently opened an open ended run in Chicago (which is only about 1.5 hours from me). I'm hoping to get there to see it soon.
