Spelling Bee love!

Posted: 6/26/06 at 2:52pmI saw the show this weekend too, and Elsa was adorable as Olive. I felt bad because the audience was so quiet! There was no one in the front row, so Stanley had to say his whole family was there in the second.

The SF Cast was great at Pride too, they did a shortened version of the opening, Logainne and Barfee spelled. The guest speller was Donna Sachet, a local drag celebrity. The used Xanadu as the first word which she got right, and immediately called her back and gave an extremeley long word that she missed. Mitch sang her off and they immediately announced the whole cast as the final spellers and they performed "We Like Spelling" which was nice to see.
On a downside Aaron Albano had some mic troubles at the beginning, and Greta's (Marcy Park) didn't work at all.
Elsa was on as Olive. She was fine, I'd like to see her in costume and the full show as this performance was hard to judge them on. They performed in their Spelling Bee T-Shirts. But it was great to see them out there!

Posted: 6/26/06 at 8:02pmDid you happen to tape that Jarret? One of my friends was taping it but her camera messed up. All I've seen of it so far was the last minute of Why We Like Spelling. As a side note on that though, Elsa looked like she was doing a really good job up there.

Elsa did great It was hard to judge from that performance how good she would be in the role. Unfortunately my video camera is broken so I didn't have it with me.
The Love Janis perfomance was great as well.

I was there, too! Donna Sachet was supposed to spell LSD (well, the full word).
I was so afraid one of those folding chairs was going to collapse on someone.

Posted: 6/27/06 at 1:05amThat's right! I had forgotten the word. (It's spelled out in the photo coverage of the event on the main page right now)

Posted: 6/28/06 at 1:31amI have a ton of pics but I will post them later, too tired now. The performance was great and Elsa has the cutest litle voice.

Apparently, the tour has its Olive: http://lauren-worsham.blogspot.com/2006/06/lauren-and-bubba-are-very-pleased-to.html

Posted: 6/28/06 at 2:57amIt's very interesting that they are casting a totally new person for the tour. You'd think they can bring SF cast or at least some of them, unless most of them are planning to go to Broadway as a replacement cast after the OBC leaves.

Posted: 6/28/06 at 1:18pmNo, they're supposedly going to Boston. (Another sit-down?)
Spelling Bee#1189
Posted: 6/28/06 at 2:23pmYep, Boston's what I heard too (and that is a sit-down I believe).

Posted: 6/29/06 at 8:11pmI freaked out when I saw a Spelling Bee ad during a repeat of The Daily Show here in SF - it was one with the broadway cast but had "Post Street Theatre" on the little sign Celia holds up at the end. Which I felt was a little bizarre, but understandable. Still, I'd like to see video footage of the SF cast.

Posted: 6/29/06 at 8:22pmDid they actually advertise the SF company in NY?
Spelling Bee#1192
Posted: 6/29/06 at 10:58pmIn the Chicago Bee brochure thing, they have pics of the OBC, and then the Chicago theatre information. It was weird, but I grabbed a lot.
Spelling Bee#1193
Posted: 6/29/06 at 11:03pmWhat? Sheesh, in SF they're selling the Broadway brochures; no modifications at all.
Spelling Bee#1194
Posted: 6/29/06 at 11:07pmAt all? It says Circle in the Square theatre NY, NY and everything? Wow. SF people fire your advertising team.
Spelling Bee#1195
Posted: 6/29/06 at 11:18pmThey sell the NY program in SF just with the little insert that's specific to the SF cast and Post Street Theatre. They really need one of their own though, but I guess it's a little late for that...

Bump because I have a question. :) And it is stupid, but oh hell, why not.
I was just watching my 2005 Tonys tape for the first time since...2005, I think. And in the opening montage number, when they're all on the bleachers, Sarah Saltzberg signed "It seems we're living out our dreams" and she actually signed "dreams." In SF, Sara Inbar fingerspells "dreams." Why? It's more pure ASL if she doesn't. It didn't bother me, I'm just curious.
See, geek. Right here.

I noticed in Chicago that Logainne spells many more words using sign language (spelling out the word). Don't know why.
But I love that Tony video!
Spelling Bee#1198
Posted: 7/3/06 at 7:34pmIt's like that in SF too Liotte. Logainne signs out the letters of all her words as she spells them. She also signs some during Woe is Me.
