'Acting provides the fulfillment of never being fulfilled. You're never as good as you'd like to be. So there's always something to hope for.'
-- Washington Irving
I'm kind of surprised at how low the turnover rate is on Broadway. Of course, I've never seen it there so I'm not commenting on how stale/not stale they are. It's just that so much of the original cast has lasted that long (yes, I know Fogler left ).

"I never had theatre producers run after me. Some people want to make more Broadway shows out of movies. But Elliot and I aren't going to do Batman: The Musical." - Julie Taymor 1999
-- Dr. Raga Ramachandran, a resident in pathology and laboratory medicine at UCSF, attended a performance of "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" last week and volunteered to join the onstage bee. It took five words to stump Ramachandran, winner of the 1988 National Spelling Bee.
I thought if you'd won a bee you weren't eligible! Well, maybe the good Dr. lied. Leah Garchik, SF Chron

I thought that I read somewhere that the winner of last year's Bee was at the one in New York. Apparently they had to make up a fake word in order to get him out. I'm pretty sure I read that somewhere.
Best line from the SF Gay Night: "Mr (forgot) is the star of his little league team, because he both pitches AND catches!"
I also liked that when Barfee was chasing Chip off stage, he said something akin to "Walk out the door! Just turn around now - you're not welcome any more."
And one of the gay men misspelled Xanadu! Impossible!
It was mostly the regular show, but with a few flairs... Logainne's speech was obviously about the gay marriage amendment. "Bush better watch out, because Dick Cheney's daughter is after him, and she has better aim than her father!" Leaf randomly repeated his "Virginia is for lovers" line from Adult night. One of the audience spellers "won his school's bee by correctly spelling 'fabulous'."
I have a sort of historical question someone (liotte?) may be able to answer: Why is Logainne referred to in most synopsi and in the libretto as "Schwartzy" when she's never actually called that in the show? Was she at Barrington Stage Co.?

Marshmallow answered most of the answers as to the jokes last night, loved the pitcher/cather line and Fabulous. The audience reacted great to those! And there was also, "Because tonight is a special occasion, Mr. ______ is wearing his good Marilyn tee shirt!" What was truly funny, was as I found out from Jared Gertner at Mecca afterwards, was the first three rows (inluding the first girl eliminated as an audience speller) were from a Presbyterian Church group. Nothing but Gays and Presbyterians in the crowd!
I don't normally stage door or that sort of thing, nothing wrong with it, just not my thing, but I met most of the cast at the after party and found them to be quite sincere, nice people. I hope this show runs a long time.
Some people come into our lives and quietly go, others stay a while, and leave footprints on our heart, and we are never the same.
LIZZIE - No, actually I posted about the other 4 Adult Shows a few pages back on this thread. And (oh woe is me, dost thou foresake me?) I wrote an article about it on the SF BWW.com page!
JARRET - It is doing well. Financially a success and the audience loves it. But we knew it was going to be a sit-down and not last forever. When it closes Sept. 3 it'll have done over 220 performances and that's fine.
LIOTTE - Yeah, I'm guessing it's ending because the tour will be kicking off soon. America can get more 'Bee' lovin' that way. These actors (as awesome as they are) are probably tired and miss home. SF was a great run for them. And I'm sure the Post Street Theatre is anxious to get a new show in its house.
