Spelling Bee love!

Posted: 6/15/06 at 11:19pmI wonder if any of the SF people (or chicago) will end up in NYC after these cast members leave. Speaking of new cast, I saw Barrett tonight at a cafe', totally saw him as Leaf. I'm excited!

When they announced four more Adult Nights withing two months, I had a feeling they would be closing soon.
I wonder if the tour cast will be mix of Chicago and SF company or just one company from either of them. I think it would make sense if they stick to one company (not mixing them) so that they don't need to do an extra rehearsal.
I'll be in San Diego that weekend, but wish everybody a great performance!

Liotte, are you going somewhere?
I was hoping to see you at either Jesse's last or Barrett's first.

Why would anyone from the Chicago cast be in the tour? That production isn't closing.

I saw the show again last night. I won the lottery. I swear this show just keeps getting better and better every time. Josh Gad's parents and parents friends were there. His mom's friend was freaking out when she saw him on a poster thing. She was like "There's her son!!! Oh this is so exciting!" And then she got out her camera and took pictures and a video. Twas ammusing. And I loved Logainne's rant. "This is almost as overwhelming as having two fathers on fathers day. And I'd love to know who the guy is that thought of having fathers day and gay pride day a week within eachother." It was a pretty lame night for audience participants. Everyone got out on their first word except for the people who had to spell Mexican or Cow. The women who got jihad spelled it something like gehajdt. Ahhh I love this show. I want to be it. Not just be in it, but exist as The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.

Posted: 6/19/06 at 5:00pmI might be taking a trip to NY in July - do you think the Bee will be at TKTS for Barrett's first week, or will his draw be enough to sell it out?

Well they better treasure it. I heard a woman associated with the production mentioning that the director is not terribly thrilled about Josh Gad, and that he is consistantly receiving performance notes.

They're running a radio ad for the SF Spelling Bee. I'm pretty sure Betsy Wolfe, Aaron Albano, Stanley Bahorek, and Jenni Barber are in it.
Interestingly enough, they say something like, "On September 3rd, Spelling Bee is leaving San Francisco and buzzing off to Baltimore," which seems to imply this IS the start of the national tour. Is that the case? Or are they just avoiding the word "closing"?
(I haven't read/heard any rumors about casting the 1NT anyway, which would make sense if they'll just take who they can from SF.)

Posted: 6/21/06 at 12:59pmWow! That ad sure makes it sound like they're going to be touring. Well, I really hope that's the case. I'm planning on seeing the tour in Orange County when I go on my short trip to LA this December. It would be nice to see some of the SF people there if they really are the tour cast.

I saw the show again on Wednesday night but forgot to ask anyone about touring. D'oh! Oh well.
Stanley brought back, "Virginia is for lovers." LMAO.
And bad news, although perhaps this is par for the course with weekday matinees: the entire mezz was empty! *tear*
And most of our section (we rushed) was empty except for the rushers. I'm not sure how it was on the other side.

I heard that Stanley randomly used that line at a Sunday Matinee too. That's funny.
Anyway, congrats to Chicago on the 100th performance!

According to "Broadway Across America" the Chicago production closes a week before the national tour starts in September.

It's not closing. They only sell tickets a few months at a time. Wicked has a slightly longer booking period because it's a smash hit, which looks likely to run for at least another year. As for Spelling Bee, I pulled this directly from the Broadway in Chicago website:
The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
Theatre : Drury Lane Theatre Water Tower
Dates : 00, 0000
Other information: OPEN-RUN! Tickets now on sale through September 10, 2006

Posted: 6/26/06 at 1:42pmIt was good to be back at the Bee last night. I'm going to miss the SF cast when the show closes. Anyway Elsa went on as Olive, and she was adorable. It was an okay sized audience, but Jared said that they've been pretty empty because of Pride. What else...Aaron gave me Haribo gummi bears during MUE(the best gummi bears ever!)Actually, he pelted them at me. Whatever, they were delicious.
