I remember reading a while back there was a song called "Anywhere But Here," which was one Peter sings with Mary Jane early on after the bullying. Any thoughts on this? Only thing I can think of was it was renamed to No More since that was its placement in the show.
I wish I recorded this to rewind what Leslie Stahl said (surely in jest) to The Edge about their score of this 'like Rodgers and Hammerstein'. His reaction was so blankly hilarious. And Leslie looked uncomfortable basically being the fly on the wall in the discussions among the three.
I'm getting a kick out of reading the reactions to the 60 Minutes piece on Twitter. It hadn't occurred to me that so many people would be hearing about it for the first time tonight.
And no one grew into anything new, we just became the worst of what we were."
i think its awsome about the whole -LED screen with all the villains, thatll be sick. im SO looking forward to patrick page as green goblin.
AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD CAN SOMEONE PLEASE POST A CLEAR PICTURE OF WHAT THE CURTAIN/THEATRE LOOKS LIKE? all the presumed "clear pictures" are not working on my computer.
....where is everyone? would act 1 be over yet after an hour 15 minutes? or will intermission be in a few minutes?
They started well after 6:30pm, it's a long show, and they're expecting to have to stop due to technical difficulties, so I expect intermission won't be for a little while.
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
Treadmills and football cameras rigs and "no one wants a $25/35 million dollar Spider-Man", oh my! I have a feeling that people would have been satisfied with traditional harnesses and fewer injured actors, but what Taymor has created (as explained in 60 Minutes) is rather ingenious.
Best part of the 60 Minutes preview? The conductor grooving to the music with her shoes off. That behavior is saved for good music, my friends, and I'm holding out hope that this is a solid rock score. I'm also holding out hope that there is a whole lot of underscoring and incidental music not listed in the playbill as I'm a greedy music whore.
haha- I loved the conductor grooving too! The song Bono was singing that was a duet between Peter and MJ sounded amazing! The part of "I go to sleep in my clothes," is stuck in my head! Always a good sign!
But these live tweets about tech difficulty... oh my goodness. I love twitter so much right now. SO MUCH.
