I totally agree that some venues (e.g. Ahmanson in Los Angeles) are inappropriate for SA. It needs a smaller theater to maintain the intimacy of the show and to be able to see the facial expressions of the players.
As for a sit-down in Chicago, I think it's possible, even if it's not as long as Wicked, or even Jersey Boys. We get so many great shows that were hugely popular on Broadway, and surely there are venues that it could work well in. Maybe not the Ford, but perhaps the Oriental? If SA came for a sit-down in Chicago I would be in raptures as well!
Seriously if there was a Chicago sit-down production, I would drive the 3 hours like once a month to see it. Bring Emma Hunton and Christine Estabrook and I'll be there twice a month.
There will not be a Spring Awakening sit down in Chicago. Xanadu will be having an extended run beginning this fall and Mary Poppins making a long debut next March. Spring Awakening will keep to short stops in bigger cities, banking on their Tony wins as the ticket seller. The producers still don't know how the show is going to fare in some cities. It'll be interesting. . .
kris elliott, yes it's 100% confirmed that riabko is touring. it has been confirmed in a few articles i read (sorry i don't have the links) and also on the spring awakening myspace.
The Hippodrome in Baltimore is just about the worst venue I can think of for this show. The rear balcony is so high that even Wicked got lost up there.
That said, when I saw SA a year ago, there were some facial expressions that I would like not to have seen.
I chose, and my world was shaken. So what?
The choice may have been mistaken. The choosing was not.
SA will be in Los Angeles for about 6-7 weeks before heading to the frozen tundra...er...midwest, in January/February. I've already told my son who saw it with me last week that we're going to Lansing...and probably St. Louis. Definitely to Louisville, KY in June (but only if Kyle and Blake are still with the show). I AM a total FanGirl. LOL! And proud of it.

"SA will be in Los Angeles for almost 3 months before heading to the frozen tundra...er...midwest, in January/February." Hey...thank goodness its actually coming to MN, the closest state to ND to see the tour, I don't live anywhere near LA or NYC so I'm glad it'll be in the midwest for a little while. And don't feel bad, it is a frozen tundra, I feel bad for the cast! Updated On: 6/9/08 at 08:53 PM
Oh, the cast will have my total sympathy. Maybe we should bring them scarfs and hats instead of flowers on opening night.
Sorry about the LA date mixup. It's not 3 months, it's more like 1.5 months. It's interesting to me that they are going to so many small towns, kind of rural towns, for such a bold play with very mature themes. Hopefully people will open their minds to the message and the music.
If Blake Bashoff is in the tour, I think I might actually see it more than twice. More than once is because Kyle Riabko is in it...and he's been one of my favorite singers.
We get it for a whole month, so if I get a new job by then I will probs take the subway in and see it every weekend with different friends who wanna see it.
