Refund an entire performance for a Tony promotion? There’s no world where that makes sense. Especially when the box office hasn’t been what they hoped.
Is this another Sunset vs Gypsy thing?
I guess you don't understand about unions, so on and so forth of what needed to be done yesterday just because of a cancelled performance.
There is nothing to gain. The show is closing July 13th.

Canceling an entire performance, then having to deal with rebooking/refunds, for a “stunt” that could have gone horribly wrong? Nah.

Are you suggesting that they chose to refund an entire house so a show that has already announced it's closing, and has no plans on touring, could take home a trophy? What could possibly be the gain in a stunt like that? It's not like that trophy is going to make a significant difference in revenue for a show that closes July 13th. The lost revenue from the refunds may be greater than the added revenue of what a Tony win could bring in those few remaining weeks. I'm not saying it is impossible that it was a stunt, but it seems illogical and unlikely.

This is the dumbest accusation I’ve heard in a long time. Get a grip.

Rather than let her audience leave the St. James just bummed out by the matinee's cancellation, Scherzinger chose to do something to acknowledge them and show her appreciation. If I were in the house, I would've cheered her gracious effort, not sneered at it.

Producers barely want to refund an audience for a legitimate reason- do you really think they'd refund an entire house and lose tens of thousands of dollars in order to get a clip that's already faded in relevance?
If it was a “stunt” to get that video out, I can almost assure you they would have magically found a way to resume the performance after getting the viral footage they “wanted”.

Conspiracy theory lunacy has left the fringes and has taken over every aspect of American life.

It was not as I know backstage staff at the St. James.
Come on people, get a life!

The lengths people have gone to trying to destroy Nicole’s tony chances is obscene. Is Arthur Laurents still alive orchestrating this smear campaign?

Absolutely! The free free press the show got from this. NY Times immediately published, plus most of the audience was filming with their phones and posting on social media. The amount of publicity it got is worth much more than canceling a matinee performance.

NY times article. The entire audience filmed the moment- its all over social media- people re-posting in all platforms. There is not enough money in the world to buy that kind of publicity.

Arthur Laurents would be Team Nicole to prove Only He could direct a Tony Winning Rose. A vote for Nicole is a vote for Arthur Laurents! (joking)

Callas2, do you have anything to add to this Board besides trying to convince people that this was a stunt?
You joined TODAY and it’s all you’ve posted about.

I would think its possible for people to ask real questions or have legitimate ideas, and not be insulted for wondering about something. Just because you might not agree doesn't mean you need to be nasty.
This is quite possibly the dumbest accusation I have ever read on these boards.
"ThEy GoT fReE PrEsS!!!!" Mary, the box office is below what they want and they are closing in mid July. If you think the benefits of this free press outweighs having to refund an entire performance of a run in its final months....I beg you to never go into Marketing or PR. Some people are really just out here saying stuff.

Exactly, perfectly put.
There will always be conspiracy theorists who think their fact-free suspicions are signs of intelligence when they are actually signs of the opposite--so thats not new. But what IS new is this idea that if you make up some half-baked, proof-free theory, its OK because you're "just asking some questions"--about Obama's birth certificate, about vaccines, about The Jews, about The Moon Landing, about a matinee of Sunset...
the root is the same: an allergy to, or disregard for, facts.
