I remember early on that season, it looked like the Best Supporting Actress race was gonna come down to Caitríona Balfe for Belfast (who would've been my winner had she made the cut) and Kirsten Dunst for The Power of the Dog (who of the actual nominees was my personal winner). Yet DeBose (who I personally ranked third of the lineup, only behind Jessie Buckley) just ran away with it.

The thing is that winning an Oscar doesn't make you a fit for any role that comes your way. She didn't become a more versatile performer when she won.
