"Sometimes you find love in the strangest of places -- and that's exactly what happens when Nick goes to the local aquarium. In Adam Bock's quirky comedy, a group of friends question the commitments of their eclectic love lives. Second Stage's presents the New York premiere of Bock's Swimming in the Shallows as part of its Uptown Series. Trip Cullman directs. Cast includes Michael Arden, Rosemarie DeWitt, and Logan Marshall-Green." ~ BWW.com

I went tonight, and really enjoyed it.
I wish I was better at writing reviews (bear with me), I definately would recommend going to see this, it was very well written and the performers did a great job.
Michael Arden was fantastic, he plays Nick, a guy who rushes into physical love and ends up wanting more, a relationship~ but first he has to learn to take it slow~ Then there's Donna (Rosemarie DeWitt) and Carla Carla (Susan Pourfar) who are trying to figure out if they want to get married or not. And Bob and Barb (Murphy Guyer and Mary Shultz). Barb is friends with Carla Carla, Nick and Donna, and she just read in Readers Digest that some Buddhist monks only own 8 things. She thinks they might be onto something and begins giving away all her possessions, which Bob isn't too thrilled with.
I would explain more, but I don't want to give too much away (plus i'm not great at this!).
Oh, and the shark. Logan Marshall-Green, one of my favorite parts of the show~ he gives a great performance as well, he's one of the sharks at the aquarium that Donna works at. (this might be a spoiler...) Nick ends up falling in love with the shark.
It's a great show and you should all go out and see it, it's really quite funny. The performers, especially Mary Shultz, are all just so incredible. Sorry this wasn't as good as most of the reviews i've read on here, I tried!

Posted: 6/22/05 at 12:09amKatie, that was fast! Absolutely LOVED it! The performances are excellent and its really funny. Logan Marshall-Green is gorgeous and spends much of the show in a Speedo (and shark fin), plus there is this great make-out scene between him and Michael Arden. It was great to finally meet Michael after hearing so much about him on BWW. I've seen him in Bare of course but this was my first time seeing him in a straight play and meeting him. You should definately check this out, I'll be back at least once or twice more before the run is over

Rentboy, I did some quick searching, and I'm not finding any published copies, which is sort of surprising, since it's had several productions. But keep looking!
Michael's a sweetheart.

Posted: 6/22/05 at 9:59amI thought it was a bit pretentious, to be honest, and the performances really weren't great. Arden basically played himself, and there was a lot of over-acting going on; especially by Rosemarie DeWitt and Susan Pourfar. Trip Cullman did a wonderful job directing, though and the set design worked really well.

Posted: 6/22/05 at 11:38am"Swimming in the Shallows" was so much fun! I saw it, and I thought the script was really witty and amusing. Plus, Logan Marshall-Green is SOOOO HOTTTTTT!!!!! So is Michael Arden. And I've heard that they sell student rush tickets for $10. I really recommend this show! :)

Posted: 6/22/05 at 3:28pmThe set design was brilliant. The shark swimming in the tank was such an incredible effect. And yes Logan is absolutely gorgeous! Especially in his shark costume

Posted: 6/23/05 at 10:11pmI really wanna see this, but the only time im going up is July 10th and i dunno if i could convince my parents (who i'm going with) to let me see it by myself without them reading about it first. and if they read about it.....they wont let me see it which is really depressing cuz i rreally really wanna see michael at work!

If they read about it, why wouldn't they let you see it? It's not graphic, and it's a play that lots of people can relate to. Yeah, there are gay characters, but their sexuality is far from the point of the play. It's a play about love. Who can't relate to that?

This is one of the sweetest plays running right now.
The performers are just great and Arden and Green are heating up that stage.
