Blake Russell will be on as Darren all week. I’m wondering if Jesse is out with COVID.

Just to clarify, Blake posted that he'll be on through Saturday 11/19.
Jesse Tyler Ferguson is out tonight, too.

Ferguson will also be out Wednesday. He and his husband welcomed their new baby. He returns Thursday.

I saw this tonight, and was very disappointed both leads were out. I definitely did not get what I paid for.
I am surprised we were not notified in advacnce. It feels very deceptive.

There's a three-letter answer for your wonderment.

I saw it tonight (Tues Nov 15) too & was also disappointed. I specifically asked when I bought my ticket on Sunday if anyone was going to be out & the Telecharge agent said no. But now, reading this thread, I see that Williams has been out since last Sat. & will be out all week. Although the understudies gave capable performances, I feel cheated too, esp. since I specifically asked before purchasing my ticket. Telecharge should know these things sooner than a message board.
You are guaranteed a show not a performer. Unless their names are above the title then you get a refund.
What if the performer you want gets injured a second before going onstage even if God herself guaranteed they would be in?

Are those two leads not above the title?
Neither actor is above the title.
Although Williams, Ferguson, Oberholtzer, and Heck are billed first, everybody is considered “below the title” (which is also how the former three were nominated in the “Featured Actor/Play” category.

Considering that the Playbill cover is just a picture of Jesse Williams and Jesse Tyler Furgeson I would say above the title or not, they were a significant selling point for this production. I paid for a Mercedes, I got a Volkswagen. There is nothing wrong with a Volskwagon, its just not what I paid for.

If I had not specifically asked Telecharge if anyone was going to be out, I would've accepted the disappointment as just bad luck. No one "was injured a second before going on stage," as this thread explains that Williams called out last weekend & will continue to be out all week. It seems to me that ticket-sellers taking money from customers should know at least as much about casting changes as fans on a message board.

Jesse Williams is hardly a Mercedes. If it weren't for Grey's Anatomy (in which he was easily the worst actor), he'd be no more of a selling point than his understudy.
Mercedes or Volkswagen. You want to get what's on the poster. Of course actors can take time if they need it.
It's frustrating to get something different than what was advertised and it's ESPECIALLY frustrating when the box office/management is not transparent.
None of these responses are really relevant to Raymondmc who is complaining about asking a specific question to which there was already a definitive answer and being told something false. Totally different than if he'd just bought a ticket without asking, or had been informed two actors would be out and bought a ticket anyway. It isn't about whether the understudies were good or ever better, or if last minute accidents sometimes happen. He was given false information and bought a ticket based on that false info.

Well...yes. There are many talented people in this world who aren't stars. For the ones who are, there's usually something that gave them the opportunity to be. That's how it works.

The lead producers are the weisslers, of course they aren’t.

I went to the box office this morning to see if I could do a refund/exchange for tonight's performance which I got through TDF. TDF said it was too late to cancel because they had already sent the order to the box office but the box office wasn't able to refund since my point of purchase was TDF. They suggested I past date the ticket, so it seems like that policy is at least in effect.

At least you were lucky enough to see this thread & so knew in-advance that the two leads would be out. I've been disappointed in the past w. cast replacements (I recently saw a performance of Moulin Rouge where virtually every speaking role that evening was played by an understudy), so now I know to ask about cast changes before buying a ticket. And in this case of last night's Take Me Out I did, and was given false information; information that was known by people on a msg board, but apparently not by people at Telecharge selling tickets. I guess now I'll have to check this board every time I want to see a desired performer in a show... Ugh.

That was exactly my issue: you always assume a risk that someone's going to be out when you see a live show. But when you specifically ask if anyone's going to be out, you're told 'no,' then find both leads are out even though fans on a message board knew Williams had been & was going to continue to be out, you can't help but feel deceived.
[This isn't pertinent to my point, but just thought I'd mention: Ferguson's replacement was excellent. William's replacement however was merely serviceable, & didn't convey the charisma that I thought the character should have embodied.]

If it's helpful, you may want to follow the Broadway Covers Twitter account, which posts when a lot of understudies and covers go on (and first mentioned Williams's absence last Friday). At least as long as Twitter lasts (hopefully they'll move it to the stories on their Instagram account).

We’ve been living in a world of entire lead casts calling out from Covid or other illnesses, and even multiple shows cancelling performances altogether. ESPECIALLY over the next few months, triple checking and due diligence is key. I understand the poster asked Telecharge, and in my experience, half the time they don’t even know what theater a show is playing in or who is on or off…
I remember calling Telecharge when Katrina Lenk was out of Company (and at least four other actors) - it was posted about on here and social media well in advance, but I asked who else was out they insisted everyone in the principal cast was on that day. Same went for Birthday Candles…that was even posted on Roundabout’s website but the agent insisted I was mistaken. It’s not right, but luckily we have a couple more avenues of information.
I’ve even gone a step further, but it’s because I love covers - I have post alerts set on my phone for numerous understudies/standby/swings, including the actor they are covering so I can be almost certain to not miss.

They are when they are requested at the theatre. Not sure about Telecharge, though.

As if Telecharge has a crystal ball that can predict when an actor will get sick or become a father..
Geeze!
