Are you sure you were at a performance of Tammy Faye and not The Big Gay Jamboree? Was Tammy rewritten and now it’s all camp?"
I know what show I was at. I saw BGJ weeks ago. Some funny bits, but no real story to tell and it was obvious. Tammy Faye does have something impactful within it and it leaned into its glitter and camp. I appreciate that on a Broadway stage.

He was fired, it wasn’t his decision. He fought to be in the transfer. But admittedly, he’s presumably less unhappy now at being told the production preferred to recast.
I suspect they’ll announce a Palace transfer as soon as Tammy posts her closing notice."
Another bare bones transferof a City Center production of a show that flopped when it came back to Broadway last time into a Barn of a theatre as if its going to go any further than Tammy Faye is going to? Like... Okay...."
The only reason to transfer Ragtime is to do a limited run for awards eligibility, just like Parade and ITW (the latter of which later extended). No one would expect it to turn into a box office juggernaut. And its chances at Tony success seem much better than TF. So...yeah, it probably has a chance of going farther than Tammy Faye at its intended purpose....

They’d be better holding off until the summer, unless they want to get into the major war with Gypsy and Sunset Boulevard.

I think assuming it's Gypsy v Sunset is premature. Right now Gypsy is a question mark- we'll find out more very soon- and Sunset Blvd is divisive outside of its performances. Then of course we have more question marks in the form of Last 5 Years, Floyd Collins, and Pirates of Penzance. I think there's a lot of room for competition for Best Revival.

These are BAD grosses for Tammy Faye. It is a slight improvement from last week. Sad for the first full week of performances with a closed balcony and they still only sold 58% of their tickets. Hope things pick up for them. Hate to see this show close.

Time will tell. The show is now frozen and though I have heard positive word-of-mouth (appararently they changed roughly 40% of the show since opening and the changes are working according to some who saw it in early previews then went back thanks to cheap rush tickets). Curious what the reviews will be like.
They have a plug/appearance on Good Morning America tomorrow and just released the trailer (which I think looks quite good) but again, only time will tell:

How do you get fired from something that you were not a part of? Logic is not your strong suit.

Rannells was an announced cast member of this production.

As I recall Rannells was announced but they couldn't agree on contract terms, and they (he and the show) parted ways. He wasn't fired.
Saw this tonight and I sorta liked it! I must admit I knew the story, so perhaps I had a one up on those who didn’t. No one left at intermission and it was pretty full. I actually thought the music was good, and far more memorable than others have. All of the leads were in fine voice and gave strong performances, especially Katie. Shout out also to the actor who plays Billy Graham. Wish I could have heard more of him! Where I think it lacked for me is in two areas- the choreography and the supporting cast. The dancing was cheesy, amateurish, and the cast unfortunately looked and felt the same on stage.
That being said, overall I really enjoyed this, my 8th show this week! I hope it stays around a little while.
I was offered tickets tonight so why not. They have done a nice amount of cutting. Since the first preview, act one is now 9 minutes shorter and act two is 8 minutes shorter which is a good little chunk to take off the total run time.

Have they actually changed 40% of the show? Trying to decide whether I should see this again. (I saw the fourth preview and was not impressed, but I thought it had potential if they restructured the material and focused more on, you know, Tammy...)
So... if you saw this video without the name, would you ever think Tammy Faye? Why is there not even an attempt being made to make her look like Tammy Faye? Could anyone tell you what Televangelist she was supposed to be? In a show about someone who has such a signature look and the closest you get are the eyes on the poster to really crib from "The Eyes of Tammy Faye?"
It looks colorful and campy in that ad. But for a lot of the ticket buying public that's actually probably going to turn them off.
As for why they don't make her look more like the real Tammy...if they put that much makeup on her people who didn't know would think it wasn't real. Also they would probably have to have 7 sets of costumes because every one would get so wrecked.

They did “Light of the World” on GMA and, while it looked fun and vibrant, Mark Evans was clearly the star and it barely featured Brayben and she was in her pink “Sally Brown in YOU’RE A GOOD MAN…” costume.
Usually they pre-record a second one for GMA3 so hopefully they make a better selection to feature Brayben.

To echo what someone said earlier - this show has been drastically changed and is actually good now. I went to see the show over the weekend - fairly full in the orchestra and no one left at intermission and there was a standing ovation at the end.
Katie Brayben is stunning as Tammy Faye. In regards to her makeup in the trailer - at the end of the musical is when you see the version of Tammy Faye everyone knows with all the eye makeup. That's why you don't see it as much in the trailer because the musical is about her life leading up to that point.
This show is worth seeing now and I had an amazing time. I was impressed with the singing, acting, and dancing and thought the story was quite tight. The music was great and had a big orchestra sound. I have to say this show is a lot better than other Broadway shows I've seen recently (just saw Our Town and wanted to like it but was bored most of the time). It deserves a fair chance after all the changes because I think it's really great in its current form!
I enjoyed the number, and Mark Evans was great, but wish they had introduced his character. I had no idea he was Billy Graham until she said "hey Billy."

Well sounds like we're missing the essence of Tammy Faye if we're not willing to go there, aren't we?
Also, Elphaba is literally painted green. Every cast member of Cats for 20 years. Rafiki and Scar in Lion King. The prospect that they'd have to wash costumes being a reason they didn't is INSANE.

Try again, love, because that is Reba McEntire not Tammy Faye walking out at the end.
Saw it this week. It is by no means a masterpiece or anything close to it, but t is also not the trash that many on here would like you to think it is. It’s a perfectly entertaining evening with overall good performances, although I agree that her accent is all over the place. The score’s not bad - nothing no super memorable but not bad. Very straightforward bio musical. It’s VERY religious, which is no surprise, considering the subject matter, but I was expecting a bit more of a takedown of televangelists, and I didn’t really get much of that here, especially in act one. This will play great in red states (I’m blue all the way, fyi) and to red state tourists.
