"It's very religious..." oh please give me a break it's hardly like attending a Sunday Church Service. Especially with a song titled "He's Inside Me" with its double entendre.
I enjoyed the number, and Mark Evans was great, but wish they had introduced his character. I had no idea he was Billy Graham until she said "hey Billy.""
Wow, what a crummy choice of song to showcase a show called TAMMY FAYE! The average viewer might not even know that little cameo by Katie is Tammy Faye. Man, that choreography is even worse than I remember.
I understand producers don’t often like to give away the money shot for free but let Katie do one of Tammy’s solos to sell some tickets and show her chops. That performance was like a bad night at a Dollywood theme park show.
i saw the third preview with a friend who just went back and saw the show again. They didn’t notice much difference. Whoever is saying the show is very different and better might be mistaken.
Tammy was really interesting and charismatic. It’s a shame they failed to create a dynamic musical to convey that.
it almost seems like Jake Shears has been pushed to the side in terms of advertising his contributions. That may be for the best since this is turning out to be a huge dud.
"The sexual energy between the mother and son really concerns me!"-random woman behind me at Next to Normal
"I want to meet him after and bang him!"-random woman who exposed her breasts at Rock of Ages, referring to James Carpinello

I believe this was the number they performed at the Olivier awards as well. It seemed an odd choice, but with Brayben pregnant at the time and Rannells not in attendance, it made sense. But I have no clue why they'd choose it now for a GMA spot. A lot of the choices they've been making with this show don't make sense to me.

I think the performances on GMA turned me off from seeing this show more than the poor reviews in this thread. I don't think a cameo from Uncle Baby Billy himself would get me to the Palace at this point.

No, it goes right into the framing device- which yes is Tammy at the proctologist's office, but she has colon cancer so in the world of the show it makes sense.
I really enjoyed this show for what it was. Yes, it's super campy (the puppets, the double entendres) but Katie Brayben is a star and Michael Cerveris' MAGA Jerry Falwell is terrifying. Elton's score has several bangers too; I've been playing Empty Hands on repeat and also enjoyed Light of the World, Satellite of God and Promised Me (the "****'s getting real" song).
It's definitely not perfect; Jim barely registers, but I'm not sure Rannells would've been any better than Borle- Tammy is just way more interesting. And while I enjoyed the Greek chorus of televangelists, the secondary group with the Pope and the Archbishop of Canterbury was unnecessary.
It's not Billy Elliot or Lion King, and yes it'll probably be closed by January- but the hate it's gotten on this board is way out of proportion.
