I have to wait until November to see this one (I did Audience Rewards), but I cannot wait to see it!

This and Network are top of my list--unfortunately have to wait until January for both of them.

This may be a bit of a stupid question, but for those who have seen it, how necessary is it for me to brush up on the history of what is going on in the play? I’ll be honest, I know very little of it and would rather not be lost during a three and a half hour play!

I've heard it is fairly important there are some good short documentaries on youtube about The Troubles, and supposedly there will be a brief overview of them in the playbill for american audiences.

Saw this in London last May abd it was one if my favorite evenings in a theater ever. This is a phenomenal play, everyone should make time to see it.
I went in with an extremely limited knowledge about Irish history and didn’t feel I lost much abd wasn’t confus3d by the characters. A cursory read of The Troubles and the Disappeared would be a good lead-in though and I recommend it fir anyone with limited knowledge about these moments in history.

Saw the Invited Dress tonight. The show is really solid. Top notch performances across the board. It's a good 3+ hours but the energy flows throughout, especially in the third act. I didn't know a single thing about it going in and completely enjoyed from start to finish. Watching documentaries or reading about what was happening politically could help, but I don't think its necessary. The play does a good job of mapping it out for you. Enjoy!

Since the play is really about human nature- you do not need any background at all to understand the story. It is very easily understandable - and riveting throughout.

I've probably heard Bono go on about Ireland enough over the years to know the backstory.

Which row did you get? Let us know how partial the view was after you see it. Thank you!

This is an all-star cast that will need special Tony categories for best actor/actress in Ferryman just so they don’t take away all the spots from the actors in other plays. Everyone gets a moment to shine and even the children have fully-formed characters to play.
Fionnula Flanagan, Laura Donnelly (acting goddess), Paddy Considine, Justin Edwards and Dearbhla Malloy deserve special praise, but there is not a weak link in the cast.
Butterworth’s script is marvelous. Do not read anything about the plot; you can know general Irish history, but take in the story cold.
Set, lighting, costumes, sound- all first-rate.
If you see one show this fall, make it The Ferryman.
