Idk what this slang means.
Wonderful show. One hold during act 2 which was resolved relatively quickly. Highly recommend!"
You don’t know what “LOL” means…?

next week. what I'm hearing from friends who saw it tonight.
of the 3 that previewed tonight - the most praise came from Fallen Angels. Apparently Rose Byrne and cast are hilarious. Second Beaches in the praise category.

Grading on a curve because it's a first preview, I generally enjoyed the show. I think Act II is stronger/tighter/better than Act I, which isn't usually how I feel about first previews. That said, Act II did feel a little rushed, and I think the production would do well to trim some fat/extraneous scenes (esp. in Act I) and build out the climax of the show. Also, there's a post-bow Easter Egg/scene, so don't leave the theatre early.
My biggest issue with the show is tone. It doesn't quite strike the balance between horror and campy 80s comedy that I think it wants to achieve. The opening of the show is bone-chillingly sinister, but you don't return to that feeling until the very end. For most of the show, the Lost Boys come off more as annoying than dangerous.
I also second the comment about there being too many ballads. That said, there are some bangers, too -- there's a hauntingly beautiful song toward the end of Act I (My Heart to You), and I really wanted more of that. The lyrics are a bit too generic/bland -- you could probably plop most of the songs into another musical without too much difficulty. The book has its moments; Paul Alexander Nolan delivers a tongue-in-cheek quote that got a lot of laughs (which the creatives should absolutely keep).
The cast is excellent, and the aerials had me on the edge of my seat. Standouts to me were Maria Wirries and Paul Alexander Nolan.
The hold in Act II was for a playground merry-go-round/spinner that clanged as it came up the elevator. The merry-go-round isn't pivotal to the plot, but there's some blocking/choreo on it, so I think the crew wanted to make sure it was safe to use.
I'll be curious to see whether they pick a lane in terms of tone. I think the comedic aspects of the show worked better than the dramatic bits, but maybe there's a way to punch up the sinister/spooky aspects without sacrificing the laughs. I'll probably see this again after opening.

An overall odd and uneven evening. The show started about 20 mins late with Michael Arden and Patrick Wilson (swoon) thanking everyone for coming and saying how this is their dress rehearsal and the first time they've ever run it with an audience. For the most part you wouldn't have ever known that. A tech stop in act two that lasted a few mins but otherwise no technical issues, besides some sound problems that it actually sounded like they were working on during the show which was nice.
During intermission, I said how I was enjoying it more than I thought I would although it was odd that almost every song was a variation of a ballad. For a show trying to be "rock and roll" looking, you'd really never know in the music besides when the rock band was playing a couple times. I did say how of all the vampire musicals, I was enjoying this one the most so far without it being a campy mess. But I spoke too soon because Act Two was a totally different beast. Still a lot of ballads but THE CAMP, DAHLING. Dancing Elvira's and Party City Dracula's and then cheap comic book "super heros" dancing and it got a lot gayer than I ever would have expected or thought. We were dying laughing at some of this sh*t.
The show got out at 11:25. Yes, 11:25 and I'm exhausted and starving so I'm gonna go take care of that, but I will just say that it's not unsalvageable or even a total mess. But it DOES need work.
And for those wondering, yes. Shoshana gets to set the dinner table here. A lot.

I have only encountered the score but it is demented (though no longer shocking) that tens of millions are being spent on building a production around something this dim, bland, and toothless. (Pun intended.)

We laughed out loud. the dinner table. This white girl cannot get a break with these shows making her set tables.

They are so exhausting. They love rooting for shows to fail. 1st preview and it’s already an attack. CoffeeBreak please take one.

If I had a nickel for every Shoshana Bean show I've seen where she prepares some sort of food item, I'd have three nickels -- which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it's happened three times.

Nah. It's an opinion. And mine is far from the only comments tonight that are not positive of your show.
You can "take one" (whatever that means) for both of your "Ensemble1698878795 & Ensemble1665759202" screen names.

Delusional sociopath. I know you talk to yourself, but I have one username. Unlike you, I don’t have time to track these boards all day. Just be quiet so people who actually want a new musical to succeed can talk about it. Back to Lost Boys. Can’t wait to see it.

Also everyone FYI CoffeeBreak is ThatGThatGThatG on Reddit. They refer to themselves as a pair there and are trying to trash Lost Boys there too. Kinda sad and scary to troll theater spaces, but here “they” are.

Huh? I read it on occassion. My husband and I share our BWW account and generally feel the same. Ridiculous you care.
Perhaps my noticing usernames made you defensive enough to attempt at a correlative falsehood. Not my business.. It only makes your connection with Lost Boys even more likely.
Despite the music, we're excited to see all of Broadway. The film is a classic in our nerdy home. Goodness.

Telling a paying audience it's dress rehearsal is outrageous. I would've been demanding a refund.

It’s not outrageous at all. Previews should be a trial process. Don’t go to previews if you want the finished product.

Pretending like you haven’t been spending months drumming up negativity on this show- its finances, its director, whether its star would drop out, whether it would even open at all, these all things you’ve repeatedly pushed- is nuts. And it’s even more nuts when this isn’t even the first time you’ve done this. At least be honest about it instead of clutching your pearls when you get called on it.

There is a fine line between a dress rehearsal and a preview, but I do expect that with a preview, even a first one, that the show has been fully run through once or twice to ensure the foundation of the show is settled prior to going before a paying audience

So for those who were there, what’s the best seating recommendations? Is second row orchestra for the discounted price too close? Front row mezzanine?

My take on the preview/dress rehearsal is that (for me), I just don’t really care, I guess? Maybe that comes from someone who has seen HUNDREDS of first previews in my life and has seen them in every shape you can imagine.
Who knows what happened here that they didn’t do an invited dress the other night but like I said before, if it hadn’t been said pre-show, nobody would have known. If for a big (and quite elaborate) new musical involving flying on wires, the only technical issue they had the entire night was a single set piece malfunctioning that had to be quickly reset, I’d consider that a major win for the show.

There are three levels to this set - it’s huge. Not a lot happens at the very top but if you want the FULL stage view and are able to do front mezz, it’s the perfect view for this one.

ALL shows do a full dress rehearsal from start to finish. Countless times. The invited dress rehearsal is their final one prior to their first preview performance and it’s the first time it’s done WITH people in the audience who are not part of the production. It’s a comped performance and allows the cast and production to get their first taste of a real audience response. It’s the first time they hear laughs, reactions, applause, etc that’s not coming from people who are part of the production. Kinda gives them a sense of what to expect the next day when they perform before a real regular preview audience who paid for their tickets.

Do you miss anything at the extreme sides of the orch or mezz ? It seems the sides are cut off in the videos

If I’m remembering correctly, the only action on a far side is on the far stage right (on the second level). I don’t really remember anything on far stage left happening. If that helps.
edit - but now that I’m thinking about it, the bedroom is more upper stage left (though not extreme side) so I’m not sure if any of that would be blocked.
