Saw this in LaJolla and thought there was something there. Cast was phenomenal but the storytelling needed some work. This is an iconic book, one dear to so many people’s heart. I felt like they were straying too far from the core message about the importance of your village, especially when you’re an “outsider”. Hope they have worked on bringing some of that back into the narrative.
Looks like the majority of the main cast from La Jolla are still in it - Ryan Vasquez obviously going to Notebook or Water for Elephants. I would be curious when it starts production if they will hire any new blood in the creative team?

Do you recall if there was a lot of language or any inappropriate content for kids under 14? I remember the movie was only PG, so curious.

Language was never an issue, THE OUTSIDERS includes 2 deaths (one by stabbing) and gang violence including a rumble. Also, family dysfunction so it’s not a tear-jerking coming-of-age story.
Doesn't one character get shot, under a streetlight, by the cops, because he pulls out an unloaded gun? - I thought I remember that from the book, which I read in 8th grade.
I was surprised when the list of advisories that I saw didn't mention gunshots, etc.

I don’t like gunshots and shows as well. I need to know as well.
Paul, Grant, Comer, Schmidt, and Lakota-Lynch are all reprising their performances from the musical's La Jolla Playhouse world premiere earlier this year. Tofa, who performed in the musical's ensemble during the world premiere run, is new to his role.
Does anyone know what ever happened to Liesl Tommy’s involvement with this show. Liesl was initially announced as the director for when the show was going to premiere in Chicago in 2020; obviously that didn’t come to fruition.
In our millions, in our billions, we are most powerful when we stand together. TW4C unwaveringly joins the worldwide masses, for we know our liberation is inseparably bound.

Glad to see them getting some high profile marketing space. Among the new musicals, it feels like Suffs and Lempicka have kinda been dominating the space. Not sure if that's just my perception because those are the shows I'm excited for and have interacted with online. But, I feel like Outsiders especially hasn't made any sort of splash yet.
They must be bringing school groups to this? I'm planning a trip in May and was putting this down for a Wed matinee but they're almost sold out and don't love the idea of an audience full of teenagers. Did it once with a Phantom matinee and it was horrible.
Many of the cast members, most of them in their 20s, are making their Broadway debuts, as is their lead producer, Angelina Jolie, in her first foray into theater.
Jolie said that she and the show’s director, Danya Taymor, were among the team members pushing to take the Tulsa journey before final rehearsals. “To be there, and with S.E. Hinton,” she wrote in an email, “was deeply moving and grounded the whole production.”

They absolutely are bringing many school groups to this. The discount codes (ponyboy and ponysocial) do not work on Wednesday matinees for that reason. So, if you don't like teens and don't trust the chaperones to shut them up, I would skip that day if you can.
I'm 42 and watched this film for the first time last night. I wish I had been able to watch it when I was younger as I think it would have had greater impact. Nonetheless, I'm super excited to see the first preview of this next Saturday when I'm in NY.
Having now seen the movie, I'm curious if "Great Expectations" is the song leading into the rumble?
Hopefully you watched Francis Ford Coppola’s 2005 re-edit of the film which is called THE OUTSIDERS: The Complete Novel. For its original 1983 theatrical release, he was forced to do some trims and cuts to the film. When he decided on directing the film back in 1982, he chose to remain faithful to the original novel so he filmed the book verbatim. In 2005 he put back everything he had filmed in its place as he had initially intended. The 1983 cut of the film runs 91 minutes and 2005 The Complete Novel cut runs 114 minutes.
