I agree with this about Hamilton. That is all I am going to say I have gotten several replies from him as well and I have private messaged him as well. Awaiting his response.
I just watched a few minutes of the DVD release, but the definitely fixed and improved some things.
The vocals are louder, as mentioned before. I noticed that a slightly flat sustained note for Stephanie Mills was "fixed" when she held it out. Shanice doesn't walk away from Stephanie into a giant camera lens anymore either. That shot was cut short (they cut back to Stephanie, which they should have done anyway).
Biggest improvement so far is the editing and shots chosen for the Tornado. Several new, better wide shots were used instead of the muddled closeups. It's still not great choreography by any means, but it looks a lot better now than it did during the telecast.
That's as far as I got, but I'm glad they were able to go in and make these changes for the DVD.

Re watching and wondering why people said Latifahs vocals were bad? She sounds fine to me. It sounds like she did the best she could with the material given.

exactly. the only way this role is going to work with a woman is if she's a contralto.
The thing is, besides being an utter toad of a human being, Riedel usually has the least knowledge of the topic in the room. He doesn't usually understand the content or approach of a show, and is always completely and unfailingly socially ignorant, which makes it really infuriating when Susan can't get a word in edgewise. A definitive mansplainer; it's always painful when he has female guests. I watch the show sporadically when I really want to see a guest, because it's the only theatre talkshow we have, but it would be so much better without this hateful clown in a dadcoat. (thanks ScaryWarhol)
Personally I cannot stand the movie or Dianah Ross as Dorothy. I have tried a number of times to rewatch it and cannot make it through 5 minutes. I would pick the remastered DVD of the live broadcast.

the NBC one all the way.
I'd watch the Diana Ross disaster if I want a good, hearty laugh

I would choose the NBC live version I watched it the first time it came on and I loved it... The whole cast was brilliant...However, like I said in the past everything is better on Broadway. I have been a fan of broadway for years and I try to catch a show when I get the chance.
I think that there are some mild corrections on the dvd. You can see the heel click more clearly, some songs are redone to get rid of bad notes, and more stuff like that. I would go with the live version, because it feels more true.
I appoligise for any spelling mistakes. I may be on my mobile. Clumsy fingers and small little touchscreen keys don't mixx. I try to spellcheck, but I may miss something.
One of my favorite songs in the production is soon as i get home. Shanice sounds great in it. Imo, the song sounds better live. I love how the beat transitions in the song and it sounds so smooth and relaxing. I always rewind that part.

why are you still obsessed with this broadcast. it has been several months now
I kinda like that teddy is still into it even if we disagreed on things (and perspective).
Some people have the attention span of a ferret around here and think everything is the "absolute best ever" for five minutes before they can't remember what they were talking about. It's not senility, just a childish ADD kicking in.

good point. same with our news cycle. we forget about shootings and deaths only a few days after it happens. what has happened to us?
anyway, I just don't get all the obsession and love for it. the execution was terribly flawed and made GREASE look like a freaking masterpiece! just my opinion
I'm not obsessed with it. I am just sharing my love for this production. What's the matter with that? I know it's been several months since it aired, but so what? There are still people including myself that still love this production. So chill out jeez.
I tried to watch it again a few weeks later and couldn't get through it. The soundtrack sounds like it was recorded in a tin can. I thought it was a fun mess the first time I saw it but really it was just a mess I think. The singing was good, I'll give it that. The rewrites to the book were terrible. Hopefully NBC doesn't eff up Hairspray.
"Contentment, it seems, simply happens. It appears accompanied by no bravos and no tears."
as much as i love this, i think hairspray live will be much better than this since they have a live studio audience and it will be filmed in many locations like grease live.and the director of grease live will be co directing it. the only thing i don't like about it is that it will have new songs.
