Not sure if this is a film stage production or a film adaptation, but it will premiere on June 24 on the streaming service.

It is a film of the full stage production at Stage 42 produced by the same team that just did the Spring Awakening documentary

This is actually an enormous deal.

They are giving a very small show that was pretty much a sleeper when it was in the city, a chance to connect with their giant audience.

Someone on the Disney Plus team clearly really respects theatre. What an exciting opportunity for this creative team to gain new attention. 
 

It’s these types of decisions that keep me a little less jaded in these times.

I am happy Disney is continuing strand firm in their inclusivity programming for LGBTQ+ youth by releasing this especially during pride month, despite the political pressures they are facing. 

This does cause me to wonder why they are still yet to release the pro-shot of the West End Aladdin that they spent a decent amount of money on considering they flew Isabella Mcalla to London just to film it.

I love this. It was a sweet little show that hardly anybody saw and while not a “great” musical, it can definitely have a strong impact on kids who need to see something like this.

I believe they flew Jonathan Freeman as well. Yeah. It's so weird why they haven't released it yet. There was a point when someone mentioned they decided not to release it anymore. But then others said they are waiting for the right time. I wonder if a relaunch of the tour would help or hinder that.

as for Aladdin, wasn’t there talk that it was pulled due to the lackluster performances of the final cast they filmed?

This was the cast, according to the “Disney’s Aladdin Filmed For Release” thread:

The cast filmed: Ainsley Melham (Aladdin), Trevor Dion Nicholas (Genie), Isabelle McCalla (Jasmine), Jonathan Freeman (Jafar), Don Daryll Rivera (Iago), Irvine Iqbal (Sultan), Brian Gonzales (Babkak), and Brandon O'Neill (Kassim).
