I am expecting The Wiz with Jennifer Hudson. :p
Jennifer Hudson in The Wiz would just be fantastic. Chances are they'll just eff up whatever they do (for the third time).
Last I heard Mary J Blige was still "open and interested" to do Cinderella but not sure what she has on her schedule for the lsat part of the year.

How exactly did they "eff up" Sound of Music? Whether or not you liked Carrie, the show as a whole was done pretty well.

I enjoyed Sound of Music for what it was, and appreciated Carrie Underwood for her attempts. It wasn't as bad as Peter Pan. That's for sure.

I didn't read this whole thread but whatever happened to FOX's GREASE? Wasn't it announced for this past TV season?
It's still happening.

Grease is 2016. :)
I could see Blidge as Glinda. :)
Were you watching the same The Sound of Music Live as the rest of the nation, Bilbo3? It was literally a disaster. The only parts remotely passable were Audra McDonald and Laura Benanti. Peter Pan was only slightly better, although it was fairly boring. So given those two chances, I fully expect NBC to fail at presenting a live musical on television for the third year in a row.
It was far from a disaster. Even if you didn't like the actors or whatever, it was certainly not a disaster like Peter Pan was. Even Peter Pan hardly qualifies as a disaster. Don't be so dramatic.
Okay, fine. If not a total and compete disaster, it was at least eligible for a nomination of worst live television musical of the decade.
hehe fair enough.
(it's a short list though, right?)
I thought the Sound of Music was very enjoyable. Peter Pan has never been one of my favorites, so I didn't enjoy it as much but I appreciated the attempt and the performances (except Walken). I would rather see a mediocre attempt at live performances on TV than not see them at all. Even musicals made into films are more misses than hits but once in a while there is a good one (into the Woods, Chicago). So, keep them coming!!
I think they should film them in a theater to make them a little less awkward. When there's a joke, the silence afterwards was jarring (especially in Sound of Music).
And for what it's worth, I actually enjoyed the soundtrack they released of Peter Pan. Separated from the visuals and edited down, I thought the score shined more than it ever has; I'll agree with mc1227 that it's not a favorite but I love Styne and Comden & Green and Mary Martin so I've listened to it a couple times over the years.
If it means anything I heard at one time Taj Mowry (sp?) was interested/attached in "The Wiz."

Would JHud or any of the people on Empire be able to do The Wiz since it will be NBC and Empire if Fox? I'm not sure how that works, and I believe JHud is becoming a regular on Empire.
Also, if people from Empire can be apart of this, I wouldn't be surprised if Jussie Smollett was involved as the scarecrow at all. He's up and coming so he wouldn't be super expensive I'm guessing, but he's also getting a lot of attention right now.

I too thought at first Sound Of Music Live was the worst thing id seen, but then Peter Pan happend I can safely and surely say Peter Pan was a huge terrible trainwreck. It made SOM look like the best musical ever.
I'm sure it will be, but I sort of hope this production isn't LIVE. It seems like the LIVE aspect is really what sets these shows up for failure. Underwood and Walken's performances could have gone over much better with the public if the director could have just picked the best take. You can clean so much up with editing.
But being live is the entire point of the broadcast.
They've done The Music Man, Annie, Gypsy, Bye Bye Birdie, and others as pre-recorded shows and no one watched.
I get that. But I think you sacrifice too much polishing when you only have one shot at it. It works in he theatre cause you don't have cameras following you everywhere, but from what we have seen, it's a gamble. Sound of Music didn't have as much a problem with this as Peter Pan did.
This is airing at the end of this year, right? JHud will still be doing The Color Purple at that point, I don't think she'll have time to do this as well.
If Zedon/Meron and NBC decide to choose THE WIZ as their next live television musical broadcast then I hope they would consider casting Jussie Smollett as The Scarecrow. He's got the charisma and vocal chops for the role.

I can't find the actual ratings for these - but I don't think "no one watched" - because if no one had watched. then there would not have been subsequent musicals.
My timing was off - I thought Birdie was followed by Annie - but actually, Birdie led to Cinderella which then led to Annie. And Gypsy preceded these.
And after Music Man, there was Gepetto, South Pacific, and Once Upon A Mattress.

Well I guess that makes sense, but then conversely why did they stop?
It wasn't for lack of material so I figured it stopped being worth the cost.
