Well, Voter 1 has some hot takes...like NY, NY for Best Musical, BEST BOOK (?), Best Choreo and Colton Ryan for Best Actor...They have to be involved in that production somehow.
Also Voter #3 is so clearly affiliated with &Juliet. It just happens that &Juliet is a good show so they didn't have to grasp for straws in the same way Voter #1 did.

Yeah, #1 is clearly involved in NYNY (is Lin a voter?). The fact that they say Colton Ryan's performance is "always fresh" means it's one they've seen many times. You don't use that phrase unless you've watched a performance over and over.

Voter 3: Every one of these women is giving a performance of a lifetime. I truly believe that. My vote would go to Lorna Courtney, simply because this is a role that never leaves the stage all night long. The character runs the gamut of a full story arc. Very difficult and very challenging songs are sung. We’ve never heard them before.
That last sentence makes absolutely no sense to me. All of the songs in & Juliet have been heard before. The only nominee in this category singing songs that haven't been heard before is Victoria Clark.
Saw KA this afternoon (3rd time) and when I saw the slip that Justin Cooley was out, I was so disappointed. But Miguel Gil as his understudy was outstanding and the entire production gets better with each show I’ve seen! Hoping they sweep all categories they are nominated for! 😊 (smiley face 😉)
I know this is only 3 voters, but it does give me a greater possibility that KA doesn't have book completely tied up. I think it'll be mostly KA vs. Shucked but possibly & Juliet thrown in the mix too.
After A Doll's House's many noms and Prima Facie failing to get Play, I highly doubt Chastain will lose this. As said above, not only is she campaigning, she genuinely seems to love being part of the community. Her performance got raves and people loved the subtlety she brought to a very difficult role. Comer certainly deserves praise for being a newcomer but you can easily see the strings in her act. She's hammy to a degree where even Jimmy Cagney would tell her to settle down. She doesn't have as much respect as Chastain, her personal reviews aren't as good as hers, it just doesn't feel like her time. She's said she wants to do theater a lot so it's not over for her if she doesn't win. And she already has the Olivier, which was much more personal to her.
Jessica Chastain has also been very visible throughout Oscar season, getting buzz for wearing a mask during ceremonies and promoting her Broadway show. She is very well-liked in both communities. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if she won.
I havent seen Comer and thought Chastain was wonderful in a lifeless production. But its interesting to me how cold New York's shoulder has been to the shows that took London by storm-- Life of Pi and Prima Facie were critical hits over there, and here? Meh. Only Leopolstadt seems to have maintained the steam from London.
“getting buzz for wearing a mask during ceremonies and promoting her Broadway show”
Got traction for sure, but much was for being performative (as has much of those who work in theatre). Not agreeing or disagreeing, but I’d hardly call Chastain a beloved, no criticism, “let’s stan no matter what” actress

Prima Facie had 13 positive critics’ reviews (and 1 mixed from Jesse Green), it’s grossing almost a million dollars a week, and Jodie Comer will more than likely win the Tony. Sure, it won the Olivier for Best Play, but it wasn’t in contention with 3 Pulitzer Prize winners over there, and, if you read the London critics’ reviews, they’re pretty much exactly in line with the Broadway ones. What about any of that is not maintaining steam?
You seem to be taking my comment as a criticism of these productions, which it was not--i havent seen Prima Facie and I very much want to.
But not sure why youre pretending to miss my point, which you recognize yourself: the 2022 Olivier Award winner for Best Play and the 2023 Olivier Award winner for Best Play both arrived on Broadway this season, and neither were nominated for the Tony. Thats the steam deficit I'm noticing.

I’m not pretending anything. You said “critical hits,” nothing about the Oliviers at all. As we all know, sometimes one has little to do with the other. I’ll grant you that Life of Pi’s performance is underwhelming on a few fronts, but I don’t think Prima Facie is comparable. Like I said, it’s all about the competition here vs. there.
Sorry if I misunderstood what you were trying to say, but, putting aside the fact that this is the Tony nominations thread, it didn’t sound like you were talking about the awards at all.
OK, so its NOT worth noting that the Olivier Award winners for the past two years weren't nominated for the Tony, or that this Board is rife with speculation about Comer not winning either. The comment is that the reception here for two London Events has been not nearly as warm, which I'm surprised by (and makes me wonder how secure Leopolstadt's lock is). This seems like a pretty valid observation.

Look, we don't know if Comer will lose; it's just it won't be surprising if Chastain wins.
An astounding 17 plays were competing for five slots for Best Play, which was the most of any field in the play/musical/revival categories. (Comparatively, in the 2022-2023 season, there were nine new musicals, six play revivals and six musical revivals. Much easier for the top contenders in those categories to get in). The spoiler in the Tony Best Play race was Ain't No Mo' - which was terrific, despite its short run. I don't think the absence of Life of Pi or Prima Facie in the Best Play category equates to "losing steam." It was the most difficult, competitive category and the nominators went with the three Pulitzer winners, all excellent, the Olivier-winning possible career capper from Stoppard, one of our greatest living playwrights, and a wildly satirical and original piece that deserved a better commercial reception.
Begin at the beginning and go on till you come to the end: then stop.
Since Chastain is a producer on Doll's House, if that won revival could she get her Tony that way with Comer taking Actress and both being statue holders?

I think Chastain would rather win Actress than Producer. That's what's she's known for and she gets the Triple Crown (she could win an Emmy this Sept). Look at Brad Pitt. He won an Oscar for producing 12 Years A Slave but people put his Oscar win for Once/Hollywood with a lot more importance.

Is that really a revelation? If I want ice cream and I can either have a scoop of grocery store vanilla or the best homemade gelato from Italy in any flavor I could imagine, I'm obviously going to go for the gelato even though I'd still love the vanilla.
A solo acting win is better in every single way. Everyone knows that. Doesn't mean a producing win won't be a big deal.
