Lea Salonga posted a story of Nicole on stage. Looking like no walk by Francis. Wouldn’t be surprised if Erivo does one or an homage though. Would be a hell of an opener.

I am readying myself that my two favorite theatre pieces of the Broadway season, Dead Outlaw and John Proctor will be going home completely empty-handed tonight. At lease my other love, Operation Mincemeat, will at least win one.

I have a strange feeling that Danya can make another upset this year making her only the second woman to win Directing for both Play and a Musical.

Here’s how one woman saw every Broadway show this season — for less than $50 a ticket on average

Do we still not know what shows are performing what songs?
Not sure if this has been discussed, but given that so many shows try to open towards the end of the season, is it likely that Best Play, Best Musical and the revivals will all have opened last year?

Best play is an extremely tight three-horse race. It’s not the OH, MARY! runaway most of us were expecting.
I honestly see it going to PURPOSE.

There are no major surprises, withMaybe Happy Endingleading easily for Best Musical(second place is a tie betweenBuena Vista Social ClubandDeath Becomes Her). Best Play is a virtual three-way tie betweenPurposeandJohn Proctor is the Villain- withOh, Mary"only a tiny bit behind."
Best Actress in a Musical is - shocker -too close to call between Audra McDonald and Nicole Scherzinger. The latter actress may get a boost becauseSunset Blvd. is ahead for Best Revival over the "polarizing"Gypsy.
Michael Paulson hedges his prediction in Best Actor in a Musical, but he seems pretty convinced that Jonathan Groff is going to win.
"Jonathan Groff, a much-loved Broadway star, wonhis first Tony Awardlast year for Merrily We Roll Along, and it’s likely, but by no means certain, that he will pick up his second this year for playing Bobby Darin in the musical Just in Time,"he writes.
If Groff doesn't win, Darren Criss will, Paulson adds.
Best Revival of a Play is close, withEureka Dayhaving a "slight edge"overYellow Face.
The survey is, as always, limited to best plays, musicalsand lead acting performances. Paulson's story doesn't provide many hints about where Best Direction will wind up. My assumption based on the article is that it's between Michael Arden forMaybe Happy Ending and Jamie Lloyd forSunset Blvd. The fact thatDead Outlawisn't mentioned makes me think it will probably be shut out. It's hard to imagine it winning Best Score, for example, when it's running fourth or fifth in Best Musical.
Other random guesses: I suspectMaybe Happy Endinggets book and score, not because voters necessarily want a sweep in those categories but because they are too divided on an alternativeunless there's a groundswell forDeath Becomes Herto win outside of Best Costume Design.
IfBuena Vista Social Clubis running second or third for Best Musical, that probably bodes well for its nominees like Natalie Venetia Belcon inBest Featured Actress and maybe orchestrations.
There will be plenty of excitement on Sunday evening."
My theory of this year’s results (and my own miscalculation): Never underestimate nominated actors in shows that have more support. Tony voters favored Maybe Happy Ending won in Best Musical and Sunset Blvd. In Best Revival of a Musical and their lead performers, Darren Criss and Nicole Scherzinger, prevailed in tight races for best actor. (I should have stuck with my original prediction on Best Actress for that reason.)
Maybe Happy Ending emerges as the night’s biggest winner, prevailing in every close race and major category in which it was eligible, including best direction, and not because the competition was weak. I suppose Darren Criss’ win as Best Actor puts a little more pressure on choosing a good replacement, but I am choosing to be optimistic. It’s a very good show that’s more tourist-friendly than other recent winners and has been doing well at the box office. The Best Musical victory isn’t a lifeline for a struggling show but should provide a significant boost. We’ll see.
I'm not surprised. When I saw it last November I thought he would get a Tony for that performance. It's so charming. The cream rises to the top.
