I mean, I have and I felt it was more annoying than anything with random bursts of good comedy. Felt far too long and felt I was watching people improv despite 90% of it being text. Big Ups for Layton tho.

Fred Mason said: "I thought they did a really good job hyping up Broadway especially that amazing monologue Pink did at the beginning. Truly a great night for theater. I feel like Pink hosting opens the door to a lot of other non theater people hosting like Julianne Hough or Kelly Ripa"

Why would anyone WANT Kelly Ripa or Julianne Hough to host? I certainly would not.

Someone in a Tree2 said: "To Jeffrey Karasarides, you along with many others have credited Queen Jean's win for Best Musical Costume Design as the first time a Tony award has gone to an out trans artist. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Alex Newell winfor SHUCKED in 2023?"

I was mainly referring to Jean as the first trans winner for Best Costume Design of a Musical.

Musical theatre has always been stupid (for the most part), but at least there used to be craft and creativity.

I thought Cats looked contemporary and thrilling. Tacky, sure, but Cats has always been tacky. It looked like true queer creativity.

The musical theatre community has always been deeply anti-intellectual ("just have fun!"The 79th Annual Tony Awards Telecast!,so this full slip into braindead nonsense is not shocking. It's probably a CIA psyop to make gay people look bad.

Also, Rachel Zegler has always reminded me of someone and I realized last nightit was Ann Margret (complementary).

Just sink down into that warm bath of SLOP and DROWN.

I really like upsets in Best Featured Actor (Musical). Ali's surprise win delights. (My fav part of the telecast.)

Forget hosting the Tonys. I want Ripa and Hough in "Chicago" alternating roles at each performance, with Mark and Derek taking turns as Billy.

The 79th Annual Tony Awards have just taken place, and there's so much to talk about. Feel free to watch me discuss what I got wrong in my predictions as well as my thoughts on the show as a whole.

A line I overlooked in the opening number at the time...

"Highflying Vampires, Glam Rock Evil

Lost Boys in Harnesses, But not at The Eagle"

Some of the lyrics were so nonsensical (in the best way) that I may just quote a phrase for my board signature in no time.

“I am furious, but I am sailing.”

I had to watch this back with subtitles to get it and I’m dying at the clever lyric choices. This (and Pink) honestly competes with my all-time favorite Tony Awards opening number — Hugh Jackman doing “One Night Only”, circa 2004!

I literally said on Instagram the night of the show that it was the best opening since 2004.

''Schmigadoon! is the fifth musical with a score that isn’t 100% original to win Best Score following Gigi in 1974, Cats in 1983, The Who’s Tommy (in a tie with Kiss of the Spider Woman) in 1993, and Newsies in 2012.''

Jeffrey: I really enjoyed your 26 Tony Trivia Facts for GoldDerby.com, but shouldn't this tidbit include ''The Producers''? The Tony-winning score to the 2001 Broadway musical includes 3 songs from the 1967 movie: ''Springtime for Hitler,'' ''Prisoners of Love'' and ''Haben Sie Gehoert Das Deutsche Band.''

The Producers at least didn’t have a good deal of the score lifted from the original film.

While the music in Cats was original, most of the lyrics weren’t as they were these T. S. Eliot poems turned into songs.
