Schmigadoon! isn't winning anything until Best Musical so it makes sense they would be first instead of coming out of the blue at the end and then winning the big award. Plus, the fact that you mention Moulin Rouge during the COVID year which doesn't really count as a Tony show is laughable"
It's been a noticeable pattern. These were the first Best Musical nominee performances each year I've been watching:
 The Full Monty
 Mamma Mia!
 Movin' Out
 Caroline, or Change
 Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
 The Drowsy Chaperone
 Curtains
 Cry-Baby
 Shrek
 Million Dollar Quartet
 Catch Me If You Can
 Newsies
 Matilda
 After Midnight
 Something Rotten!
 School of Rock
 Come From Away
 Mean Girls
 Ain't Too Proud
 Moulin Rouge!
 MJ
 New York, New York
 Hell's Kitchen
 Death Becomes Her
