Mazel tov to Shoshana Bean. Im hard pressed to think of many as talented, as present in the Bway universe, as well-loved and hard working... love that she called out the perennially overlooked Paul Nolan. And her speech made me cry so kudos all around.
(I know people are saying this is long overdue, but her strongest work, I think, was in roles for which she wasnt eligible--Hairspray, Wicked, Waitress, etc.)
CATS isnt my thing but this energy is just infectious. Great to see the swings participating, smart to highlight the choreo.... at this point it feels like Ragtime would be an upset (and I say that as someone who thought Ragtime was superior). I laughed out loud when they cut to ALW and Anna Wintour, but Wintour had her sign hiding her whole face.
i do not love this out-of-order silliness re the awards. We now have Best Play but not Best Actress or Best Supporting Actor?
No surprise re Liberation, though it reminds me that as fine as Metcalf was, Betsy Aidem continues to rip my guts out in everything she does. Get her a leading role stat. I really dig seeing Bess Wohl draped by FEMALE producer badasses, and highlighting Whitney White as she picks up the first Tony since the late great Wendy Wasserstein. "May you speak your truth and may the world be wise enough to listen." THATS a speech.
Was John Leguizamo's mention of the Knicks that first time we got a sports call out at the Tony awards?
Tutty is a treasure (and heres an actor whose voice is struggling but he able to make it work). This show deserved more love is my takeaway. It was clever and sweet and flew by. What more do we need, really?
