The BWW Tech Support Thread#450
Posted: 2/2/26 at 9:45am
For the past two weeks or so I've noticed that for certain threads the index doesn't show the correct data for the most recent update, username, etc. It seems like this only happens for a few threads at a time. Eventually (hours or days later) those threads do show the correct info in the index, but then other threads are off.
Currently (Monday morning) the index appears off for these two threads. If you open the threads there are posts more recent than what the index shows.

Yes it’s everytime I post. For whatever reason, my posts need to be approved. This is holding the board back

The search feature no longer seems to allow me to advance beyond one page. If I click "next" or any of the page numbers, the search just resets.

When, I try to see the PM's I have sent it brings me back to the home screen of BWW. I don't have any issue seeing PM's I have received.

How long do you have to have your account before you are no longer "new" and need posts approved?

I recall this first with the Grosses thread last week that after subscribing I did not get any posts. Same with Grosses and other new threads this week. I'm only getting posts for older threads and ones that I started or added to. Thank you.

Thanks, this should be fixed going forward. That form was being spammed, and it looks like the 'Confirm your subscription' links weren't always actually confirming people's subscriptions... But now -- better!

I keep getting logged out on mobile, even though I’m selecting the “remember me” toggle. Any ideas?

For the last two days, none of my thread subscription requests trigger a confirmation request.

The three highlighted articles on the home page aren't correctly linked -- the hyperlinks have the domain erroneously doubled, and result in an error when clicked.

More on subscription issues: I haven’t gotten an email about a thread I’ve subscribed to since March 4, and it hasn’t gone to spam or anything. This includes both threads I’d previously gotten emails for as well as new threads I’ve subscribed to

Why did you people delete the Hugh Jackman thread about how he performed at Rupert Murdoch’s party and then also deleted the thread asking why you deleted it?????? You don’t think this is.a legitimate thing to discuss?????? And in the meantime, you allow a psychopath to create 10 million screen names and post whatever the hell she wants without banning her from the site?????? Absolutely despicable.

This is the thread for Tech Support issues - not for your personal rants. If you want to know "Why", read the rules. The answer is clearly stated there.
You do not pay for the servers that host your thoughts (free of any charge to you). You have generously been granted access to post on their servers. They are maintained and monitored by people who DO pay for them.
IF they should choose to randomly delete every other word, of every odd-numbered post, on every other Monday, IT IS THEIR OPTION TO DO SO as owners of the site and its servers - but they don't.
You have the option to post elsewhere if you don't like or agree with the very reasonable rules that have been established for posting.
I don't understand why you would think you are entitled to not only bite the hand that is feeding you, but to be so demanding re: your incorrect assumption that you deserve an explanation beyond what is clearly outlined in the established rules for posting.
That is a real duck (sp) move.
Mods and moderation of the Board may not be perfect, but neither are you. Regardless of what is perfect or what is not, the BWW site does NOT belong to you.
It is my opinion that you should be more respectful of the person/company/people who are respectful enough of you to allow you to use their services and equipment openly and freely.

It is true though that the administrators of this board have been utterly unable to control troll accounts, however, and the fact that these users have been able to create dozens of new usernames at will to circumvent banning is a rather glaring security flaw of the site.

I think that's been better lately though? And I'd add to this, that a friend of mine was one of the new Ensemble names recently and quickly scared off by those assuming every new poster was an old poster. Trolls always reveal themselves, but think sometimes we scare off the newbies.

John Adams,
Matt Rogers has a join date of 2004. That's over two decades of BroadwayWorld patronage. If he feels he has been disrespected, it's perfectly valid that he expresses that however he sees fit.

I agree that trolls who create multiple accounts are an issue that should be addressed, and that this is the proper thread for that purpose.
Anonymity - and whether/not it is rightfully being respected by the site admins, or maliciously being abused by the end-user(s) is at the root of that particular problem (I believe).
I can also agree that trolls with multiple accounts are a potential security threat, but I tend to believe that the issue falls more along the lines of being an extremely obnoxious nuisance rather than an actual threat to site/user security.
I don't know how to solve the problem. I would imagine that reasoned suggestions might be welcomed by the admins (keeping in mind that having to sift the "reasonable" from the "unreasonable" could very quickly become overwhelming).
I believe what is the most effective troll repellent is exercising ignorance. "Don't feed the trolls" (including behavior like lashing out at admins via name-calling) is a common phrase for good reason.

It's the "however he sees fit" part where I disagree.
