Any updates on when "The Devil Wears Prada" might be making its Broadway debut?

Shaina Taub posted this a few weeks ago - looks like they are hard at work on writing it! I'd imagine a Spring 2021 bow at the earliest, assuming they do an out-of-town tryout in Fall 2020, which still seems a bit too early.

They're just writing it now. Don't expect any for a year or two.

Just basing it off of the movie (as we don't know what direction the score will ultimately go in at the point), and of course Anna Wintour herself, Patti LuPone would not be my choice for a character who comes across as almost detached in her biting, icy, elegance. For me, personally, I feel as if so much of Patti's power comes from her brassiness and fire, neither of which scream Miranda Priestly to me.

She can do detached and icy elegance, but yes I'd prefer Donna Murphy or ... (I'm really sorry but I just think this could work) Idina Menzel in that role.

I like Lenk as an actress. But, she’s not the first person I think of in that role. She might read a tad young.

Totally agree. I always enjoy Patti Lupone in anything, but this also seems like miscasting to me. Would love to see Donna Murphy get her chance to star in a new big musical...a long time since passion. She would be perfect in the roll and Elton John's name associated with that title would sell plenty of tickets. I think Phillippa Soo will be too old for the role of Andie by the time it opens.

How about Eva Noblezada? I think Soo reads quite young. She has the qualities for the role.

Donna Murphy or Bernadette Peters for sure for Miranda
Would Betty Buckley be too old for Miranda in three years?
I’d also say Eva or Philippa soo. I wonder if micaela diamond would fit the role.
But I would say this show will sell with Elton attached and like one leading lady. Two broadway “names” would amazing though

I agree, Murphy or Lupone would be great in the Miranda role and would sell tickets. Debra Monk might also be an interesting casting choice. Chillina Kennedy for Andie

I think it is important that Andie be in her early twenties for her character to be believable. I also think the person playing Miranda needs to look great in the clothes or she won't be believable. She is THE fashion icon. Don't see Patti or Betty Buckley being convincing, over and above Patti's preference for passionate roles vs. Miranda's cold-as-ice personality.

I don't envy whomever is cast as Miranda. She has the thankless job of (a) following Meryl Streep's performance, and (b) more importantly, translating a "subtle" character on stage.
The genius of the film version is that it subverts expectations. Miranda is introduced by the background characters' reaction to her (not even to her, but to the idea that she could enter any second -- genius). We don't even see her face until the elevator doors open. Then, we fully expect her to scream and yell, until suddenly, she talks in an icy, calm manner that throws you off and then you think, "Oh no. This is more terrifying."
I don't know if that could translate well to a stage and how the show's tone will be. Miranda is a figure whom people fear because of what she could do, instead of what she actually does, but it's a musical comedy (?). It would take great acting skills to pull that off and I can't imagine how Miranda's songs will be like as I don't know if the audience can reasonably suspend their disbelief that this person would suddenly belt an aria.

I would like Miranda to be a Lauren Bacall type--a speaking singer if she must sing at all. I think it would be 'beneath' her character to burst into song and dance---let all the others around her do all that and she just cut through it all with that look and attitude. Someone with a speaking voice like Gwen Verdon. Can you imagine Anna Wintour singing? Neither can I.

This role IS Patti's next Tony. Hands down.
BUT, maybe Heather Headley or Louise Pitre or Susan Blackwell.
OR imagine this as a drag role....hmm

She has not been on Broadway, but I feel a great Miranda could be Emma Thompson. She was fantastic as Mrs. Lovett in the Lincoln Center in 2014 and this would be a perfect debut

Patti LuPone is 70. Miranda has twin "tween-age" girls. Do the math.
Catherine Zeta Jones on the other hand...
