PERFECT. But...would she?

Only she herself has said she’s not much of a singer, and the couple of songs she sang on American Horror Story clearly relied on a lot of posy-production tweaking to make her sound like a halfway decent singer. With Emily Skinner having done the most recent reading I can’t imagine this is going to end up being a score that someone with limited vocal ability could handle.
Now, if we were talking a revival of A Little Night Music with Jessica Lange as Madame Armfeldt I would be down for that. If you wanted to go full AHS reunion I could even see either Lily Rabe or Sarah Paulson as Desiree

Krystina Alabado is an unknown to 99.8% of the world.

Doubt it. He might not have even seen her in Billy Elliott, by all accounts he was very absent from the U.S. production. Anyone know if he attended last week's reading?"
Elton actually did see Skinner in Elliot as he attended the Chicago productions opening night. Not sure how much more involved he was, but still.

I have heard from a reliable source that PRADA will be having a workshop in the spring and that Audra McDonald is attached to Meryl's role.

Does Idina Menzel have the acting chops for this?--she has the face and can handle any score.

Other board is saying that Beth Leavel is Miranda, after a bigger star recently dropped out.
Someone here also said that Leavel had big news that would come out soon.
I mean she'll be fine, but it's not the casting this role deserves.

I think Beth Leavel is one of the finest comedic actress I've ever seen. Excellent timing, and milks every moment. Miranda does not need comedy, and while I'm sure she's also a great dramatic actress and very versatile, I don't want to see her talent wasted on such a stoic role.

Would you rather she be unemployed?

Part of me feels like this is the casting for Helen Sinclair from Bullets Over Broadway all over again.

Thought the exact same thing when I saw 86 (now 87) comments on this topic. And if I recall, some people were ultimately a little disappointed when Mazzie was chosen over a bigger name. (I remember reading similar conversations about the Annie and KenCen Follies revivals.)

Ermengarde, thanks for the reminder about Annie...Follies cast, on the other hand, was brilliant in my mind.

yes brilliant, but lots of speculation about who would be in it before the KenCen production, before the Broadway transfer (if they would replace people), and before the L.A. run.

As someone who wasn’t as active on the board back then, who were the “names” thought you be attached to Annie and Bullets before official casting was announced?

The thing that's getting glossed over:
Per press release, the pre-Bway production in Chicago has been delayed a full year until July 2021 (not 2020). It's a little odd they would announce Leavel (a talented person who does not mean anything at the box office) a year and a half in advance.

That Broadway.com article still has the 2020 dates, so here is the Chicago Tribune piece that directly quotes Kevin McCollum:
"The show’s lead producer, Kevin McCollum, cited the “ridiculous schedules” of the creative team and said that everyone involved needed more time to work on the show"

I take their announcement to mean this will be the cast moving forward with the development process more than anything. It could mean all new levels of comedic material written for Beth, which is exactly what is needed to make material like The Devil Wears Prada sing.
I love Emily Skinner, but she doesn’t strike me as the kind of actress you write comedic moments for in the way Meryl or Beth would inspire.

Damn. Look at Meryl and Beth swapping roles like it’s nothing.

Anyone else notice this is now the 3rd time Beth has played a role on stage that Meryl has played (or will play in the case of The Prom) on film. They both played Donna in Momma Mia as well.
Edit: lol plannietink looks like we had the same thought!
