thanks for the review.
although it's made me disappointed on a few levels. disappointed in that the show sounds like it sucks, on so many levels.
and disappointed that I not only got the "toshi station/power converters" comment, but also that so many others did. Perhaps there's a new bulletin board in the making: "Star Wars geeks turned Theatre Freaks".
care to join? maybe we can all meet up near Shubert Alley and find a place to play D&D.

Fosse76 - you must have Father issues, the Lion King was a great show, or maybe you were too heavily sedated...
I wish I had been heavily sedated for the not so great parts of Lion King! I agree with Fosse. Great costumes don't make a show good. Beauty and the Beast had nices costumes and a few nice special effects. I was not impressed and was looking for the moving sidewalk when the show was over.
See, I really liked B&TB. Didn't care for The Lion King, though.

I would have to say that Beauty was my favorite. And I'm hoping that The Little Mermaid ranks close to it when I see it.
From what we are hearing, don't count on it.
They are messing up the story and not sticking with the movie like BEAUTY did.
And the design team seems to be in a dither.
Most people hate the set and costumes and the black lights are so 60's.
It sounds like absolute garbage.

Call me a wide optimist, but I think that by the time it hits the Lunt, it will be on the right track.
Based on what sleepyguy?
You have a novice Broadway Director, set and costume designers.
And a wild ego calling all the shots after a huge flop (TARZAN).
Well, consider the fact this is the only purely negative review I've read, it's not that hard to think that the show could be great when it hits NYC.
Curtain, you're just bound and determined to hate TLM. Why?
Bitter Old Queen
I think they have made many poor choices in the developement. casting and stuff.

I agree with WW. I'm can't predict the future, so I can't say for sure if it will all work out. But the collective consensus is that it has potential. And seeing as its still in previews its not doomed completely. That gives me good hope. :)
Curtain, have you seen The Little Mermaid?
Plus, I still don't see how this could flop. It's one of the most beloved Disney movies OF ALL TIME.

Didn't B&TB get criticized for following the movie too closely? I don't think that's necessary for the Little Mermaid to be successful. They don't necessarily need to change the ending to be exactly the same as the movie ending; I just think they need to change it from what it is currently.
No I haven't seen it
My comments are purely on what I hear from people working on it and what I read.
I think it will run for a while and sell tickets because people want family fare.
I loved DISNEY growing up, I wanted to be Cubby O'Brien so bad.
And i am glad they are doing Broadway shows, but why not something original?
And why do they choose these strange designers and directors and not people who are Broadway savy?
Yes they clicked with Taymor but they pissed her so off she will never work with them again.

"Fosse76 - you must have Father issues, the Lion King was a great show, or maybe you were too heavily sedated..."
No, I wasn't sedated nor do I have father issues, but I do have good taste, so that must be my problem. So Dr. Laura, since I hated Lestat as well (and found it as equally boring), does this mean I have mother issues and a fear of gay vampires?
"Ariel is hired as a spokesperson for Chicken of the Sea!"
That made me laugh out loud.
Like it really matters what shape it's in! The show will make a fortune no matter what. Every little girl will be dragged to see the princess show. If Tarzan's goal was to bring little boys to the theater, it didn't- accept for big boys to see the star.
when the news 1st broke i couldnt believe this was comin to the stage and this review just added onto my doubt but after the 1st month of it on stage maybe ill see it, depending on the reviews it gets.
For sdfsdalfk again (sorry to bump this):
Ursula's tentacles appear kind of spiky, probably to give them some depth and make them more interesting to look at. Her skirt isn't mechanical; I think it's very full and voluminous, and once or twice her skirt is fanned out around her and attached to her bubble thing, so it makes her look like an octopus swooping down on its prey.
When does the show Officially open in Denver and do they get reviewed there?
I hope Riedel attends.
It officially opens on the 23rd. And local critics are going to review the hell out of it, I'm sure. I know the 2 major newspapers will print reviews, and I expect the 3 major news networks will have their respective entertainment critics on it. It's a pretty big to-do for Denver, I'm sure there will be suitable coverage.
Was trying to post a pic.
