Awwwww.... I love Robin I hope he wins! I have never been so happy about a show getting nominated. I guess I just connect with it! Man I can't wait to watch the Tony's now!

Broadway chica, that was beautiful! You should submit that as an op-ed to the times, I'm not even kidding (though if you do that you'd have to delete it from here)

Chica, that was brilliant. Especially this- It doesn't matter *what* show has that effect on you, just that you get to experience it. I love and completely agree with.
Testing- glad that you didn't miss Mandy last night/bummer that she wasn't there.
How much do I love the "the nominees react" stories on the various sites? My fav, from Lin-Manuel: But [the nomination] makes me take more stock in what [director] Tommy Kail has to say, because it was Tom's idea for me to play the role of Usnavi. That was not originally my intention, and I didn't do that in my original production. But he said, 'Let's do this for now. You're pretty good at it. And we'll find a real actor somewhere down the line.' And then that never happened!" http://www.broadway.com/Gen/Buzz_Story.aspx?ci=565355
and non-Tony talk for a sec, is anyone going to this: http://www.playbill.com/news/article/117701.html Among those scheduled to perform the songs of Comden and Green are Michael Arnold, Kate Baldwin, Stephanie J. Block, Walter Bobbie, Matthew Broderick, Andrea Burns, Jonathan Dukochitz, Jonathan Freeman, Sean Martin Hingston, Ann Harada, Norm Lewis, Jessica Molaskey, John Pizzarelli, Douglas Sills, Mary Testa and Max von Essen.
The show tonight was brilliant. Lin-Manuel, Olga and Robin all received entrance applause during the opening number, HUGE standing ovation for Lin-Manuel during curtain call. The crowd was great. Karen Olivo- I'm sorry, I love, but she should not have been singing tonight. I *cringed* during It Won't Be Long Now, and she actually STOPPED singing during 96,000- continued thru with all the choreography and everything, but it was weird hearing 96,00 without Vanessa's part in the full-on chorus. And Seth was late for his "what up? buy my tshirt." before the start of that number- there was 10 seconds of dead silence onstage- I laughed, but I don't know if you were a first time viewer if you would have noticed.
But can we talk for a sec about the beauty that is this:
Poor Karen... she sound kinda shakey this morning too

you have to give karen credit though. It was clearly an important performance for everyone and she gave it her all and covered up the best she could. If anything I just felt bad for her.

i give her credit too for performing tonight, and also this morning. shes a trooper karen. love the new outside, it was up in no time. the performance i was at this past sunday with krysta as vanessa karen was actually there too. she came out of the stagedoor and did not look good at all, so i let her go but some others noticed her and asked for an signature but she walked by.
Oh yeah I completely understand why she went on, and *I* know she's all legs and voice the rest of the time, but she hit that second bad "away" in It Wont Be Long Now and I worried for a sec that she'd completely blown her voice and we'd be getting a second act u/s Vanessa or something.
But, I actually thought her raspy almost voicelessness worked so well for "Champagne" somehow- go figure.
Her voice was really, really shot, but only on the high notes. She sang lovely the rest of the time, and I thought she covered admirably. Anyone who's never seen the show (and most people there, I'm assuming, hadn't) could never tell that the chorus in 96,000 sounded emptier without her parts. It was *very* wise of her to save her voice in that moment. And she did what she could with "It Won't Be Long Now" to make it work. I really hope she takes tomorrow off to rest her voice.
Anyway, it was a fantastic performance, and it was lovely being able to attend the show on such a special night. I loved the kids in the crowd. I'm the type who likes a rowdy audience, and the cheers, and even yelling out stuff at the actors cracked me up.
And random, but I think that Daniela's part near the end of Carnaval samples the "Adios, adios adios" from the song "En Mi Viejo San Juan". Which is just...gorgeous. Man, i hope there aren't any copyright issues with THAT one, cause that little detail in the chorus absolutely kills me. I'd hate for it to go the way of "Pollito Chicken" Updated On: 5/15/08 at 12:12 AM
Oh yeah how did I almost forget- the "chase her!" yelled from the audience at the end of Champagne almost killed me- hilarious. And I loved the group of kids who I could hear *cheer* at "Alza la bandera, la bandera Dominicana" (and I love that I know what that means now too) in Carnaval. But "chase her!" was classic.
from the sh-k-boom email blast (this info's not on their website, though) about the Heights cd:
The In the Heights double-disc cast recording is on its way! The CD will feature a special 68-page booklet including photos from the show, the complete show lyrics and a special introduction from Tony-nominated director Thomas Kail.
68 pages, photos, *and* the complete show lyrics? I already love it.
