(ps- where were you sitting? did you hear the small burst of entrance applause for Josh? I was sitting right smack in front of that group of his friends, they were *so excited* for him, it was so adorable.)
So one of the people I took to the Heights matinee yesterday is someone who has never seen a show- ever. No Broadway, no touring, nothing. His musicals exposure consists of "I saw the movie The Wizard of Oz," lol, because "musicals are weird because people are just waking down the street and break into song..." Anyway, I am sure you all know that I am providing this setup because, fast forward to intermission at Heights, where he's texting his friends how much he's enjoying it, and so he's now looking for suggestions on other shows to see.

You're not alone, LOL.
I'm a HUGE Les Mis fan, but have actually limited myself to 2 performances each engagement (well, when the 3rd national tour was still around) for fear that it would turn stale and boring after a while.
The incredible thing is that, after so many years, the last time I saw the tour, it felt like the first time. I will never trade that feeling for anything.

"If we don't live happily ever after at least we survive until the end of the week!" -Kermit the frog "I need the money... it costs a lot to look this cheap!" -Dolly P. "Oh please, Over at 'Gypsy' Patti LuPone hasn't even alienated her first daughter yet!" Mary Testa in "Xanadu" "...Like a drunk Chita Rivera!" Robin de Jesus in "In the Heights"
"B*tch, I don't know your life." -Xanadu After that if he still doesn't understand why you were uncomfortable and are now infuriated, kick him again but this time with Jazz Hands!!! -KillerTofuPosted: 8/25/08 at 4:42pm
I've said this before, but when I saw the show with my parents, my mom thought Benny was Dominican. She even leaned in when Kevin said he mistrusted Benny and said "ah, cause he's Dominican". It's explained in the show several times, but for whatever reason, a lot of people make that mistake. Truth is, there is some rivalry between Dominicans and Puerto Ricans. It's really unfortunate, but I grew up listening to a lot of really awful racist Dominican jokes (the equivalent would be something like Polish jokes in the US). My grandfather was Dominican, and the same was true over there (ie, racist Puerto Rican jokes). So while Heights deals with black/latino racial and cultural conflicts through the Benny/Rosarios relationship , it could easily have worked with inter latino conflicts if Benny *had* been Dominican.
And My Oh My, I'm glad I'm not alone in this. I just really cherish the feeling when a show is still fresh and new. I may miss out on seeing all these wonderful understudies, but by limiting myself, it's still always a treat when I actually *do* see the show. I plan to when my sister comes visit me in late September.

I know Right
it could easily have worked with inter latino conflicts if Benny *had* been Dominican.
Thats what I thought Benny was until the second time I saw it!
