So fyi for the understudies this weekend question earlier- I'm not sure if Marcy's back yet or not? As Janet was on as Vanessa last night and also tonight. Tonight was actually a good night for understudies, there were understudies for Vanessa, Abuela, Carla, Piragua Guy, and Graffiti Pete on the board (and plus Josh!Benny this week.)
This is pretty delayed... 2 weeks delayed. But I FINALLY remembered to look back because I wanted to see if anyone felt the same about Nina Lafarga that I do. I guess no one has reviewed her!
I was there on March 1st. I saw all of the understudies that are on the pic of the board. I wasn't too impressed. I LOVE this show... just never post on this thread. Nina did nothing for me. She just felt so emotionless. She was pretty quiet and didn't have a whole lot of power. Everything just felt like it was at the same level. Now, just finding out that it was probably one of her very first times performing, I guess I can't be as harsh. She has a lot of room to grow, but it's possible.
I expected more from Krysta based on what I had heard about her. I just didn't feel much for her. She didn't do the role the justice I experienced when I saw Karen.
Stephanie: I love her as Carla. Not much else to say about that!
I was there with two people who didn't care to see the show, so I let my feelings about the understudies worry me about what they would think. However, they came out LOVING it much more than they expected they would. I was very happy about that!
This show was simply spectacular!! Everyone I saw was extremely amazing! I especially liked Olga Merediz and Andrea Burns...wow! What performances. I had goose bumps for most of Paciencia y Fe. I also got an autographed poster to help BC/EFA, because I was so moved by this show! What a well made show! I can certainly see why this show deserved a best musical Tony! What a way to spend my weekend!
Marcus Paul James doing At This Performance on Monday night, for anyone able to go...
Performers scheduled for Monday, March 23rd are Catherine Brunell (Understudy for the role of Mary Poppins in Mary Poppins), Bradley Dean (Standby for the role of Thomas Weaver in The Story of My Life), Matthew Hydzik (Standby for the role of Tony in West Side Story), Marcus Paul James (Understudy for the role of Benny in In the Heights), Emily Morales (Understudy for the role of Liat in South Pacific), Nicole Orth-Pallavicini (Understudy for the role of Vera Simpson in Pal Joey), Richard Roland (Standby for the roles of El Gallo, Bellomy and Hucklebee in The Fantasticks) and Jim Stanek (Standby for the role of Alvin Kelby in The Story of My Life).
Hey Everyone, I'm not sure if this has been posted yet but Mandy has a 4 episode contract with One Life To Live. Her first air date is March 26th. She is play a drug treatment center representative. Here is a statement made from www.soapoperanetwork.com
Mandy Gonzalez first appears as drug counselor Lauren Hoffman, a drug treatment center representative, on March 26th. Gonzalez is currently slated to appear in four episodes of "OLTL." The Broadway star has appeared in numerous stage productions, including "Aida," "Lennon," and "Dance of the Vampires." Gonzalez, along with her co-stars, won an 'OBIE Award for Performance' in 2001 for the play "Eli's Comin'."
oh wow your right. I never noticed that. I just looked at the soap opera magazine that I have and it says she is In The Heights. Maybe they just left it off the website.
Javi interview that covers a lot of stuff- growing up in Brooklyn, musical influences, learning to rap, his various Heights auditions, etc. Very nice piece. Javier Muñoz: The New Heart of the 'Heights'
Hey, anyone know if there are going to be any understudies going on Saturday? I might finally get to see it again!
"If we don't live happily ever after at least we survive until the end of the week!"

"B*tch, I don't know your life." -Xanadu
After that if he still doesn't understand why you were uncomfortable and are now infuriated, kick him again but this time with Jazz Hands!!! -KillerTofu
Blanca should still be on for Abuela this weekend, I think? (She's not on the board, but rather listed in the Playbill, which usually means covering thru the whole week.)
And Doreen's going on for Daniela later this month, the 14th - 17th.
I did see again last night. It was still enjoyable and fun. In the playbill now Blanco is now the new abuela claudia because her picture is not in the ensemble page anymore, and was not on the understudy board.
Piragua guy- Tony C Graffitti Pete- Michael B
Now they are doing the bc/efa fundraising. In the Heights poster signed by the whole cast is 100 dollars, earrings/scarves sorry Aundrea said it quick, and a picture with Lin with his tony award is 60 dollars.
Doreen - Camila Elise - Daniela Blanca - Abuela ( I think Olga is back tomorrow?) Jon Rua - Graffiti Pete Tony C - Piragua Guy
As funny as tony is, I kind of missed Eliseo. Ther est of the udnerstudies were ridiculously good though, especially since Doreen and Elise were both on in those roles for the first time.

I'm a professional. Whenever something goes wrong on stage, I know how to handle it so no one ever remembers. I flash my %#$&.

**Blanca. I thought she was good, although nothing particularly jumped out at me.

I agree. I wasn't really sad when she passed away since I wasn't too drawn to her.

Well, I can't say that is true for me. I liked her, I thought she was cute as Abuela, just didn't feel she did anything different with the character (unlike Doreen, whose Camila was SO different from Priscilla Lopez's but it worked!)

I missed that lineup by one show- Andrea was back for Sunday eve- how was Elise!Daniela?? I loved Doreen's Camila, loved. I thought she and Rick worked nicely together, and her "Enough" was fierce! Definitely not as angry as Priscilla does it, but instead so much more with the parental look at me/listen to me/hear me vibe (especially with the way she was grabbing Mandy's arm, cupping her face, etc.), which was so good. And I loved that she had a Camila wig. :)

That was what I liked about her Camila (and that particular moment was actually pretty amazing). With Priscilla you can kind of believe it when Rick calls her "the dictator," but with Doreen it was more like a little joke between husband and wife.
Elise!Daniela was fierce! I honestly had no idea what to expect, since I had seen her Abuela and thought that was a pretty good fit. Her Daniela was sooo much better. My big problem with Doreen!Daniela was that the comedy felt forced and over the top, but Elise's comic timing is pretty perfect. Some of it I felt she played very similar to Andrea, but she definitely made some of it her own and it just worked. Her voice is also pretty ridiculous. Carnaval del Barrio was insane (and to be honest I am a little bit of a snob about it because that is my favorite song/scene in the show and I have, for the most part, only seen the show with Andrea in it).
