The choosing was not...

To respond to an earlier question . . . Lin-Manuel actually came on stage last Thursday and did the BC/EFA speech with Andrea. He auctioned off pics with his Tony for 60 bucks a pop in the lobby. I think it was a one-time thing. I know they made a ton of money with it.
Up until now, I thought the "pictures with Lin and his Tony" were simply framed pictures of Lin winning the Tony. And frankly that did not seem to warrant paying $60. Now I understand. That's a cool idea. I wonder how many people want a picture of themselves just holding the Tony?
Haven't been since Javier took over for Lin - what do people think about how it's working now?
Javi's brilliant, the show is in great hands... I think I may have told this story on here before, but I was at Heights recently, sitting in front of two women who, with the help of their Playbill, were figuring out that the Usnavi they would be seeing (Javi) was not 'the original' (Lin). Then at the end of the show they promptly declared something along the lines of "it's ok that we didn't see the original, because there's no way the original could have been better than him." Um, sorry Lin, but it did just kinda make me go awww for the Javi love.
Saw the show for the second time last Saturday and, truly, was moved all over again! Javier was really great.... totally funny and cute! I also liked Marcy more then I thought I would! Also, even though I didn't think it possible, Robin has gotten even funnier as Sonny! I took my hip-hop obsessed friend to see it and now she loves it as well! I was at her house last night and she said "I can get you whatever you want.... except a "stretch limousine"! (does the Andrea Burns hand gesture)" I started cracking up!
"If we don't live happily ever after at least we survive until the end of the week!"

"B*tch, I don't know your life." -Xanadu

So if any of you saw the ACL national tour and were lucky enough to catch Gabrielle Ruiz as Morales, starting May 26 Ruiz will be taking over Krysta Rodriguez's track in In the Heights (ensemble, u/s Nina, Vanessa, Carla).
This info's already in her bio on her website, so I figured it's ok to mention here...
How's the show doing at the moment? Cast good? Still going strong? 'Cause I'll be jetting over with the family at the end of July/Early August and this is one of the possible candidates I'm considering :)
GAH! I'm so excited! I'm seeing the tour in March!!!!! WOOT WOOT! I've been wanting to see this for a long time.
"There's nothing good on. The media hates Christmas. The media loves vampires, though. Maybe they will show a Twilight Christmas." -Danmeg's 10 year old son.
Cast is very good and still going strong. Audience was having a great time last night. Stage Door was fun. It was our 8th time at the show and the first time seeing Javi. He's doing a fine job as Usnavi. Lin was there too which caused lots of excitement. He signed, posed for pics and then quickly left.
Did anyone catch Gabrielle Ruiz going on as Vanessa for the first time tonight?
eta, and, from bu.com: Tony Chiroldes will be on as Kevin in IN THE HEIGHTS Sunday, June 14 evening thru Thursday, June 18 and will be on as Piragua Guy Friday, June 19 through Sunday, June 21. Updated On: 6/14/09 at 10:24 PM
I want to see Tony as Kevin. Badly. And I can't go this week.

I saw the show for the first time tonight. Wow, that was really Gabrielle Ruiz's first time?? She was great! I really liked her.
Also...do the ushers there just not care about photography? No one was stopping anyone. Before the show started, there was a flash going off about every 30 seconds, and a woman next to me was taking pictures all night long (without the flash though, so it may have gone unnoticed.)
Yep, tonight was Gabrielle's first night on as Vanessa- I've been obsessed with her voice since the ACL tour, can't wait to hear her belt the hell out of "It Won't Be Long Now," glad to hear she was great (even though I had no doubts :))
There was also a Nina understudy, but I lost my playbill somewhere in the shuffle. Any idea who I might have seen? She was FANTASTIC. I loved her voice!
Hi, I saw the show for the first time at the Saturday matinee (June 13th)and was blown away. I thought it was fantastic. Everyone was in and I was really impressed by the whole cast. I thought Javier Munoz did a great job as Usnavi. His voice inflections are very similar to Miranda's, but he puts a bit of his own spin on the role. Marcy Harriell was Vanessa and I liked her a lot; I thought her voice was beautiful, although she perhaps doesn't have quite the same glamorous appearance as Karen Olivo did (she is shorter, so doesn't have those long legs, and her hair is shorter, too.) I, too noticed a lot of flash photography before the show started (people taking pictures of the set), and the ushers did nothing, but at least it stopped once the show began. The audience was very responsive and appreciative. I was a bit nervous because the woman next to me had her son with her who couldn't have been more than 3 (WHY do people bring such tiny kids to the theater?!) but he was remarkably well-behaved--a bit restless, but not annoyingly so. All in all it was a great experience and I'd encourage anyone to see the current cast--they are all doing a great job! Oh--almost forgot--the one thing I noticed on the "negative" side was that Priscilla Lopez's voice seemed a bit weak, and she seemed as if she was straining to reach some of her notes. But then I listened to the cast album again and she sounded pretty much the same, so maybe that is just how her voice is? I wondered if perhaps she was tired or not feeling well. Her acting was still very good, though.
Ahh good ole 'In The Heights". I haven't seen the show since the Thursday before Lin left the show. I was also lucky enough to see it before Karen Olivo left to play Anita. I have been trying to compensate by seeing other shows but I'm starting to really want to see it again. Does anybody know who the next cast member to leave the show is?

For ITH fans, if you weren't there or haven't heard, Nina LaFarga was completely amazing and gorgeous last night as the star of the Mardi Gras number in Broadway Bares 19. She's an amazing dancer, and one of the Nina covers (right) in ITH. Wow, she is incredible - it was so great to see her in the center spotlight last night.
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.
