I guess I'm in the minority here -- I thought MLW's speech was really rude... and the back-tracking acknowledgement of the others in her character seemed very insincere. I don't begrudge her the win, but I found her completely ungracious.
She probably knew that Grey Gardens wasn't going to get much acceptance speech time, so she tried to make it as memorable and self-indulgent as possible to make up for all the Grey Gardens snubs.
Agree, that was amazing !! Raul sounded great ! That being said, I dont know if that number would have people scrambling to buy tickets to see "Company" -
Raul knocked that out of the park!

Raul was incredible! Did he get nominated for anything tonight? I'm pretty sure he did but I can't remember what for.
I made my dad take a break from the Soprano's to watch Raul and he enjoyed his performance. My dad hates theatre and everything to do with it o.0;
RAUL!!! That was incredible. Chills. Major chills.
*crosses fingers for the win!*
I know someone is going to jump on me, but I didn't care for Raul vocally at all. I've heard much better verisons of Being Alive at community theaters. Sorry.

Sorry all -- I am at fishergirl819's house for a TONY party and never logged in as myself before posting that comment about MLW being ungracious. Please send all hate mail my way -- she had nothing to do with it.

I don't think I care for Raul's voice. There's something about it that bugs.
Aberj, I agree. I thought it was over-the-top. Especially "mock me w/ praise."
Aber- to each his own. I hold some unpopular opinions as well :]
And yes, Raul was nominated for Best Leading Actor in a Musical.

Maybe I'm just antsy, but it feels like it's crawling by for me. I guess I'm just not all that jazzed up about it this year like I have been in years past.

hurry...hopefully, Raul's performance and the two awards it will probably win will give it a kick in the pants, but the show's struggled its entire run.
He is beyond amazing....anyone else here see him in "The Normal Heart?" That started the mancrush, this completes it. As I said on another thread, so intense yet so vulnerable.

Raul's performance was strong, but you can drive a truck through his vibrato. That's one thing I've never liked about his voice.

People, you're missing the REAL party on Harris' thread on the OT board.
Ok... So it's The Blonde I agree with. :)
fishergirl819, she's an actress. Her speech was acting for comic effect. That's why she won. It's a joke. Don't blame her because you're too dense to get it.
Raul's performance was wonderful! It makes me want to see the show.
