Would love to see Michael Arden's take on any Sondheim musical...but particularly Follies and Night Music. And Sunday.

Aurora (The “Spider Woman”) - Age 20’s - 40’s. Strong Alto: Bottom Low C#, Moderate/Strong Dance. Attractive, menacing, mysterious, seductive. Must be a strong dancer."
Good to know, I always thought it had to be a latin actress given everybody else associated.
Nicole would be FIRE!

Is this not a theater board? Are we not discussing casting for a musical? So only people who agree with your casting idea are allowed to comment? Sounds like you’re not actually interested in in a discussion. You just wanted to declare your opinion and make everybody else agree with it
I am a very lonely Anika Noni Rose truther for Night Music.
Audra in Passion and Follies (not or. and!)
Nicole in a new musical! (*cue laughter from the producers in the crowd*)
I would've cut off my left arm for a Nicole revival of Evita ten years ago.

Nicole feels like much more of a Charlotte than a Desiree.

I don’t know why Desiree has to now be cast ravishingly beautiful.
Glynis Johns had a quality.

Nicole has the perfectglamour and sex appeal for the role (a la CZJ) - and it would be easy to understandwhy two men are fighting over herDesiree.
It would also give Nicole the chance to excel in a lighter and funnier role. Yes, her voice is overqualified for it, and there's a chance she'd oversing it, but the same goes for Audra!
I know Sondheim wanted Audra in the role, but I keep picturing Nicole in the role, and it feels so right.
Thoughts?

I agree and see Nicole as Desiree and Audra as Charlotte based on character breakdown and vocals

Agreed. I also don’t understand all the hot guys who get cast as Seymour in Little Shop of Horrors. Lee Wilkof (original Seymour) was absolutely perfect.
Idk if it’s in the script or not, but the Broadway revival of Little Shop has a note where Seymour was “originally written to be portly, balding and a bit slow-witted, but now is played by the likes of Hunter Foster.”

I agree with those saying Nicole’s voice would be wasted on this role. For me, Cate Blanchett is the ideal Desiree with Toni Collette as Charlotte. I’d pick Raul Esparza for Frederick, Norm Lewis for Carl Magnus, Andrew Barth Feldman for Henrik and Helen J. Shen for Ann. Helen Mirren would make a great Madame Armfeldt.
Pour one out for the Natasha Richardson revival the world deserved.

Maybe I'm not getting something but isn't the exact line in the script exactly what you are quoting - that she IS ravishingly beautiful? (Anne's jealousy)

But in so many ways this production was a one-off, so I'm not sure weknow yet whether she was simply perfectly cast for this very idiosyncratic production or is a major new star in the word of musical theater.
I think Nicole is considered a major new star in the world of musical theater. For perspective….well, I can’t think of the last performer who could be described this way.
A Little Night Music takes place in Scandanvia. Does that fact mean anything to anyone?

No, because "Scandanvia" isn't a place or a word.
Also, some of us aren't interested in dog whistles about actors not being white enough.

Don’t you just hate it when they’re racist and dumb?
No, the hypothetical casting of a woman of Filipino-Hawaiian descent in a hypothetical revival of a fictional musical loosely set in Sweden does not bother me. Nor should it bother you.

Audra’s playing Mama Rose to great acclaim. You know that.
It's not "loosely based in Sweden" Jackass. It IS in Sweden.
I don't believe in blind casting. I cast to serve the piece. I wouldn't cast a person of color as Desiree anymore than I would cast a whilte person as Effie in DreamGirls.
Blind Casting exists to capitulate to actors who complain they aren't able to play a role. It doesn't serve the play, it serves the ego of actors.
Write more plays for people of Color. Purpose was fantastic! Don't try to take a white experience and turn it into a black experience, and the opposite as well.
A white version of Dreamgirls is as absurd and a black version of A Little Night Music.
That is my opinion. It doesn't make me racist and I refuse to be labled as such for what I believe in. It's YOU that is racist.

You do realize keeping your mouth shut is an option, right?
You sound completely moronic, but by all means continue to dig your own grave, loser.
