How about Jenna Leigh Green as Elphaba? I really think she deserves a chance. She's absolutely wonderful!
All the best performers bring to their role something more, something different than what the author put on paper. That's what makes theatre live. That's why it persists.
- Stephen Sondheim
"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter
This is such a snooze fest. Are we really still talking about who's going into this role in WICKED which if it's indeed Murney (who does have a hellofa vibrato), than how is that interesting or exciting in any way? Why is "musical chairs elphaba's" worthy of such a long thread? Talk to me when it's a name we haven't heard. I think Mandy G. would be great but I think she's busy with something else. I'm also surprised Phantom hasn't made an appearance and suggested the girl with the golden hair, who oddly, no one has pointed out, IS NOT A BLOND!
She's been with Wicked since it opened three years ago, and has bounced through every company (from Broadway to the tour to Chicago.) She's been in the ensemble, understudied this role, stood by for it, and played it full time in principle status.
I think she's gotten everything out of the show there is to get.. it's time to move on to something new in her career.
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.
Mandy isn't available b/c she is going to star in a new off-broadway musical this spring! :)
She's doing In the Heights, right? I can't wait.
Kristy Cates would of course be fantastic (she's certainly done the role enough!), but I'd rather see her do something different.
Diana DeGarmo would, as Parks said, blow the roof off the Gershwin. She'd be fantastic.

I chose, and my world was shaken- So what? The choice may have been mistaken,
The choosing was not...

Just in case Julia Murney reads this thread....I am one more person who thinks her voice is gorgeous and truly unique. Sometimes, when you're better than anything that's come along in a long time, people don't understand you.
Syccon sp? won't do the role. She left as standby to go on to something else when Eden left.
Also, I am sick and tired of all these threads guessing who the new Elphaba would be. I personally hope they bring on someone new. But that's just me. I am sick and tried of having these castmembers go from cast to cast.

I hope Julia Murney comes to Broadway, allthough she's said that she wasn't planning on it back when she was on the tour. Maybe she changed her mind. Her performance was amazing; she sang the **** out of it, had a great cackle, and probably is the actress out of those who have played Elphaba in the past who looks most like Margaret Hamilton, which does add some authenticity to the role.
winston89, I am a friend of Saycon's and can assure you she is still with Wicked.

God, you guys. I simply stated that her vibrato was a little much. I did say her singing was excelent, but her verbrato is more than it should be for this role. Updated On: 10/30/06 at 05:16 PM
I agree that she does have a lot of vibrato, but I still love her voice. i'd love to see her bring her Elphaba to Broadway.

I originally saw Ms. Menzel, then Ms. Bean, when a friend was suddenly left w/a last-minute spare. I enjoyed both ladies immensely.
Well, if y'all could do me a favor and let me know in a month or 2 when you hear DEFINITE word whom Ana is handing the mantle over to (and who will be Glinda), that'd be groovy. It was such a fun piece and I think my boyfriend's gonna have a grand time.
"I am not 'a' Eunice Burns. I am THE Eunice Burns!!!"
First of all, this thread gets sadder by the post, but I had to interject once I read someone saying "their girl Julie reiber would be great but she's not enough of a name" are you kidding me? Like any of the imagined or otherwise replacement Elphaba's mentioned on this thread are "names"? They have absolutely no recognition outside of this board. Ana Gasteyer, maybe and even she's not anyone's idea of a household name, So Julie Reiber would be just as valuable as anyone else. The insane lack of perspective really never gets better around here, does it?
People who seem to be looking for something to go off about on this board are sad to me. People are having fun talking about who they'd like to see in the role. Take a valium.
And Ana Gasteyer is about as much a household name as just about anyone who's been on a popular television show for a decent amount of time.
