I know Im probably going to lose my pink card over this one but....I think This Is the Moment is a freaking boring and overrated song. From a muscial standpoint its the like the same 2 verses, with a key change. Ive sang it on occassion, and with piano accompaniamnet its a snoozer to sing..Probably to listen to as well.Sure a full orchestra helps, but they're hard to bring along on an audition. Singing that for a pro audition, unless you are in callbacks for Jekyll, is committing suicide. OK bring on all the boos, and the "success stories" of using that for an audition piece. Lol
Like dissing Frank Wildhorn is something new 'round here...
that's why wildhorn is a controversial composer. Alot of his songs (and shows for that matter) follow the same format.
But I like him anyway :)
I love the song.
And I usually don't do this...but phillyactor, I think if you are going to start a thread putting something down, you should get the spelling correct in the thread title at least.
Thank God for lucky individuals who never make typos. I can spell Equity and SAG however.
I agree it is a horribely cheesy song with some terrible rhymes...the flower one gets me every time.
But it still holds a special place in my heart because half an hour before every show of the theatre company I work for, we all get into a circle and sing along to this song and dedicate the show to a cast member. It is an amazing thing.

This song has my least favorite lyric EVER.
"Every endeavour I have made ever"
That lyric is SO BAD! It is beyond awful!
So can I.
"When I can open tomorrow like a flower."
Akiva
Great song which fits the story perfectly
" So can I. " I normally don't do this, but those that criticize others for making a typo, should never write a sentence that is so grammatically incorrect as, " So can I."
Nard,
You are totally right...hah I am thinking of a totally different version, due to what SticktoPreist said. Sorry...brainfart.
Akiva
p.s. Actually looking into it I am thinking of the right song...but there is a different version with the flower lyric in it... thank god it was cut though.

HaHa...OK.
Except STP's lyric is in "This is the Moment"
I do not like:
"Damn all the odds
This day or never
I'll sit forever with the gods"
I mean, aren't they Christian? How many gods do they have?

I'm not a big fan of the song, but Acoustix (the best barbershop quartet ever) has the most beautiful four-part-harmony of This is the Moment.
If you ever get a chance to listen to it, then please do! I downloaded it off of Limewire as well, so check it out. Obviously, it has the same lyrics, but it's killer.
Oh, from the colm wilkinson version?
I think they knew even when they were writing it that it's kind of cheesy, but it's a staple and it suits the show, if not well, at least as a recognizable "Oh, I know that song..." kinda thing.
the original 1990 concept CD has the flower lyrics...
"This is the moment,
This is the hour,
When I can open up tomorrow
Like a flower,
And put my hand to,
Everything I planned to,
Fulfill my grand design,
See all my stars align!"
I still think the lyric "...one last final chance..." from "The Transformation" on the double disc CD is worse. but, that too was changed to "...one great golden chance..." and became a separate song titled "Now There Is No Choice" the song just before "This Is The Moment" in later versions...
but I love the show too much not to accept these small lyrical agitations...

Jekyll and Hyde is one of my favorite shows, but I have to admit "This is the Moment" is usually the one song I skip over.
Singing "This Is The Moment" is absolute suicide if you're auditioning professionally. As quickly as you open your mouth, you'll be out the door, lol. It is quite a fun ballad to do if you are in a concert, but other than that it is horribly overdone and repetative song. In my opinion, Scarlett Pimpernel was the only show of Frank Wildhorn's in which the music doesn't entirely repeat itself every 5 seconds, and contain the most obvious key-change in the world, lol!
See Ya!

Isn't that Rob Evan's signature song?

Why not correct the typo? I do love the song. I especially love Franc d'Ambrosio's version. Updated On: 8/29/05 at 12:45 AM
Yeah, the flower lyric was on the Colm version, then it was changed. But my elementary school graduation we sang the Colm version of this is the moment and even though I'm a girl and this isn't supposed to happen, my singing voice got much worse when I hit puberty so this was my one bright moment of singing-I had a solo in "this is the moment" and the whole flower verse was my solo. So that song holds a special place in my heart.
