I was just looking at two tickets to GREAT GATSBY in March on TodayTix.  The seats in the chart were marked with the special ticket symbol indicating they were a special TodayTix discount.  Indeed, when I clicked on the pair of seats it showed each was regularly priced $165 but were being discounted to $103.  Looks like a great deal.

Then I pulled up the Telecharge seating chart and found those exact seats were marked as $104 through the regular ticketing platform.  So the TodayTix "special" price was really nothing special.

Are these TodayTix discounts always deceptive, making one think they are getting a great ticket offer that in actuality matches regular prices?

How do you all use TodayTix (if at all)?

I had a similar experience in looking for tickets to Gatsby. One day a few weeks ago my phone had an alert from TodayTix about some kind of special deal, so I checked it out. It showed some "discounted" seats in the mezz. Then I looked on Telecharge and found the same seats for $2 cheaper. I ended up buying them through Telecharge.

My sense is TodayTix is useful for daily lotteries and rush tickets, but not so great for advance purchases.

TodayTix was once a great platform for finding good deals. Not so much anymore. It’s been doing things like that for years, not to mention their fees. It’s essentially a broker platform at this point- you can get tickets for in demand shows, at a price. They are just buying tickets using available discounts on your behalf and collecting fees to do so.

And their customer service is pretty atrocious- I got tickets through them for a performance that was canceled due to COVID during that first winter after Broadway reopened when shows were being canceled left and right. They made getting a refund unnecessarily drawn out and difficult, even under those circumstances.

I only use Todaytix for rush/lottery. For advance ticketing I go to the official ticketing site (telecharge, broadway-direct, or seat geek.)

I've used TodayTix occasionally and gotten an okay deal on tickets, but those purchases were few and far between. I have more luck using discount codes on the official ticketing platforms for the shows I want to see.

I used to buy some cheap tickets from them during flash sales or with $20 discount codes TodayTix occasionally had. Now I'm in the "golden tier" and get 10% discount on every booking, occasional seats upgrade for the same price and my favorite new feature is ticket "drops" where you can get a very discounted single ticket (2 days in advance at most). If you're into last minute deals I think TodayTix is a good option.

Yes, TodayTix is really only helpful in seeing what shows are having sales in one place, vs. the individual theater owners' official sites, especially since they tend to make it more obvious. And if you see a sale on TodayTix, then you should check the direct site to compare.

TodayTix was having a Black Friday sale for mezz seats to Maybe Happy Ending for $77. Checked Telecharge and the same seats were $79. So technically it would have been a deal...but Telecharge's total included a $15 online fee, so I just went to the box office and got the same seats for $64. I wouldn't have thought to check Telecharge for that date and seat if TodayTix hadn't made a big deal about their sale, so it was helpful in that respect.

I'll use TodayTix occasionally for rush tickets, and have gotten the best deals winning their lotteries. Like I saw the first Off-Broadway performance of Merrily We Roll Along for $30 because I won the lottery. Or more recently I got a front row center lottery seat to the Harry Potter play for $40.

But other than that, I'll only buy through TodayTix if my wife and I need tickets that aren't last minute, so we can hire a sitter. The ticket prices are reasonable but not a bargain. I almost always see cheaper ways to get into a specific show, just not on the needed date.

I actually quite enjoy using TodayTix, but I agree that the pricing is usually the same as what’s reflected on Telecharge/SeatGeek - sometimes even a dollar or two more.

I have reached status as a “gold member” - I’ve achieved it by buying tickets at least 12 times on their service. As such, I receive an additional 10% discount, accrue ticket credit, and get occasional surprise upgrades to a higher seating tier. For only $1/ticket, I can also cancel my tickets up to 24 hours in advance for a credit - no questions asked.

I purchased Sunset Blvd tickets for January and it was later announced that Nicole would be out - TodayTix offered a full refund to original form of payment OR a 110% refund as a TodayTix credit. So, I think you can really make it work to your benefit if you stick with it and utilize the benefits, but it isn’t as straightforward as a discounted ticket service anymore.

Put me in the camp of those who only use TodayTix for lotteries and rush only. And, their customer service is atrocious. Around the time Broadway was reopening from the shutdown, I had bought a ticket through them. Well, turned out I had Covid and as such they simply didn’t care. They never gave me a refund or even credit (something that they sometimes do) or were helpful in any way.
