I'm afraid so.

If we don't know by August, I've got pretty good seats to her concert here. I could make a big poster asking "IS THE RUMOUR TRUE YOU WANT TO PLAY FOSCA?" & block the view of everyone behind me. If it's for a good cause I'm sure no one will mind.
Who would be dumb enough to put money in a commercial revival of Passion is my big question? Maybe at a non-profit?

He’s saying it’s Cynthia and Groff. Idk if it’s true but if so that doesn’t seem like a such a box office long shot.

Greg Nobile/Seaview, per the Oracle.
She’d be great in the part.
I don’t think it’s a dumb investment at all. I think the show has a better chance of finding an audience NOW than in the 90s and young people may be drawn to the story once they see it. The reality is, any Bway musical starring Cynthia should be able to sell out for 6-9 months easily, and Jamie Lloyd and Jonathan Groff are major added bonuses. It’s also not a huge-scale show (unless Jamie Lloyd makes it so)
I hope it happens!

Is Groff a little longish in the tooth for Giorgio? Wouldn't Nicholas Christopher be electric in the role?

It being a musical should help Passion, but I was surprised how poorly Dracula sold considering it was on sale during peak Wicked fever. I thought Cynthias name would sell it out way before previews began and the negative word of mouth got out. So I'm not so sure how much of a draw she is.

We see this with Audra all the time and we used to see it with Nathan Lane when he did musicals: if the star is singing, they’ll sell.
Dracula basically had toxic word of mouth from moment one, and didn’t they hold more seats back than they should have for future sale and it kind of backfired?

I’ll buy tickets for Passion regardless of cast announcements.

I'm changing the sign I will bring to the Cynthia Erivo concert. Now I'll make one thst says " Die Fosca! DIE!"
I'm joking. I'm not a 15 year old Kpop fan. I don't make signs and bring them concerts.
I'll wait until I see the show in NYC & yell that out at the penultimate moment.
I'm already researching what a 19th century Italian soldier's uniform should include, and I'm about 100% certain it includes assless chaps.

Jamie Lloyd has already mounted a production of passion at the Donmar back in 2010 with Elena Roger...I wonder if this does happen will it be that production. Kind of how he basically brought his Regents Park production of Evita to the west end.
Also weren't there rumors of Lea Michele and Johnathon Groff possibly collaborating again. Would love to see her in this as Clara.

Would be wild to have Ari and Cynthia on Broadway in 27-28.

With respect to their talent, I need AT LEAST a five-year break from both of them

At least together.
The weird thing is: a few days ago the statement came out (maybe also SO?) that Fosca was a dream role of hers - and my head cast Groff. (I don't want this to be true, because SO)

I'm already anticipating an Ari v Cynthia Sondheim showdown at the Tonys in '28!

I'm most interested to see what Groff would do with Giorgio, assuming this rumor pans out, as well as possible Clara's. I think he reads young enough to do the role.

If Erivo isn’t available I’d like to see Micaela Diamond as Fosca.

I'd love Nicholas Christopher as Giorgio. I think the racial and colorism subtext with a lighter skinned black man being torn between a dark skinned Fosca and a white Clara.

There are other white male directors out there?

What colour paint did he dump on Giorgio at the end?

No no, he was a very traditional director back then. Which is why I think it will be a new production, his directing style has changed too much

Well, this would prove to be a dilemma.
I have never seen Passion in person, only the proshot. And despite my admiration for Donna Murphy’s performance, and a few songs, I didn’t really like it. But this combination is tempting (it would cross one of the remaining Sondheim shows I haven’t seen off my list) except for what I assume would be stupid ticket prices.
One thing for sure: I am not precious about Passion. Jamie Lloyd can change what he likes. Cynthia Erivo played Jesus Christ. I think she can play Fosca without everyone freaking out about the racial dynamics of it all.
But how do I recommend it to my spouse, who is much less of a Sondheim fan than me? Groff would help a lot but even that might not be enough.
