Sutton Ross said: "Uhhhh.....Anthony Ramos is sexy as hell and can sing. Really actually. Like on Broadway. But, sure."

Yeah, well, if being a Broadway singer were a prerequisite for casting consideration for John Chu, or any recent movie musical, we would have had some very different casts over the past year. Ramos is very sexy, but he does not read as a spoiled Prince. As I said, he’s too rough around the edges.

Considering they've only cast Broadway singers as the leads so far.... Probably a good chance.

I get that everyone lost their collective minds when Rege-Jean appeared on Bridgeton but as we all know he's all man (Thanks, Shonda!). Fiyero has a boyish quality to him so this doesn't fit him, imo.

And when you say "rough around the edges" I think you're saying (politely) he's too urban, street, or hood. Am I incorrect?

He's an actor. He gives whatever the role needs from him and based on all his different projects, he's proven to be a great one.

When I say rough around the edges, I mean his looks aren’t as pretty boy as most of the guys who’ve played the role on stage. Suggesting that it has something to do with racism when I’m literally suggesting a black man for the role is a bit of a stretch.

Maybe Ramos for...Boq?

I was thinking Robin de Jesus. I wonder if they’ll try to find a little person to play the role. They seem to be focused on representation, and with their casting notice for a wheelchair using actor to play Nessa, they may want to handle Boq’s casting similarly.

Oh and for reference : Rege-Jean is bi-racial. Not a "black man" as suggested by user "pmensky". Facts are important and erasing his entire Dad's side of the family is gross and dangerous.

Also suggesting that Anthony is a joke to play Fiyero is in poor taste.

HERE is an article in which Page is quoted twice as referring to hi himself as “black.” As far as Ramos being a “joke,” no one said that. Ever. Keep typing.

Jelani Alladin should be Fiyero. I singlehandedly will lead that campaign if necessary.

Oh he would be great, too. He’s in that upcoming Gaston prequel series (which sounds like such a horrible idea on paper) for Disney+, so his career is on the up and up.

What about Salma Hayek as Morrible?

At one point she was developing a Wicked miniseries based on the book so she’s obviously a fan of it and knows it well. She’d be a very different Morrible but she’s an incredible actor so I’d love to see her do it.

I wonder if they'll incorporate any elements of the book into the film

Maybe they'll actually incorporate the Time Dragon Clock into the story, or rather a version of it altered to suit the musicals' narrative.

I can also see them maybe naming some of the students after book characters, like maybe have students called Tibbett and Crope.

It has been way to long since we heard anything about this movie… no casting except Elephba and Glinda… wonder when we will hear something???

makes me wonder when we will hear something… also will they take The Color Purple approach and announce cast a month before filming begins…

Any thoughts???

I'm guessing that they're currently in the process of casting the other roles.

Due to numerous logistics, casting announcements are sometimes made after an actor has already been cast and already midway into rehearsals.  There’s no protocol when it has to be made.  WICKED isn’t a dance musical so a principal role could be cast a week prior to the start of filming.  This happens regularly — cast on Friday and first day on set on Monday.  Any musical number is scheduled for once they’re able to get actor ready (rehearsed, prerecording of song done, etc).

Also worth mentioning, Just because a casting announcement has been made still didn't mean this will actually happen. Casting gets announced for projects all the time and then for various reasons the project keeps getting delayed or gets canceled altogether.

Many of us may remember when Meryl Streep was to star in Evita directed by Oliver Stone, when the two-page announcement was made in Variety Magazine that Phantom would be made in 1991 starring Crawford and Brightman, or when Chicago was to be filmed featuring Madonna and Goldie Hawn. Those are just examples for movie musicals. Not including the countless non-musicals that have announced an attached cast that fade back into development hell. For an even more recent example. Look at the Disney+ prequel series for Beauty and the Beast. They were announcing casting as late as last week, and now, for all intents an purposes, it's dead.

It's great to be excited and make conjecture, and wonder who else will be cast, but rather than worrying about when further casting will be announced, we may still be in the "if" phase. With the track record for movie musicals the past couple years, I'm not getting too excited until I'm sitting in the theater with my ticket in hand. Nothing is certain in the film industry until the credits roll.

Excellent points made.

Also of note, Michelle Pfeiffer was originally cast for Alan Parker’s film adaptation of EVITA.  Costume fittings had even started.  Then he decided to shoot the film in various global locations from Argentina, Budapest, etc. and she bowed out as she had just adopted her son and didn’t want to expose her infant to such a heavy production schedule.  That’s how Madonna got in.

When filming starts, we'll know it's a definitive

Well, we'll know there is footage. Even once filming starts, they could decide the casting is wrong á la Back to the Future and The Lord of the Rings. Or they could get it filmed, decide it isn't great and leave it on a shelf for five years only to be recut by a different director like The Fantasticks. Hollywood can have a funny way of doing business.

Well if you look at The Color Purple .. they started to announce the major players as last week… they are reported to start filming next month.
On the reasons the prequel to Beauty and the Beast was nixed actors schedules did not alone with the production… also this was a minor project compared to Wicked.

I believe they would had not announced two major stars for the project if this was not a go. This picture will be huge for Universal . I’m thinking also Jon Chu would not get in twitter and mention how the audition went …

I think after the Oscar’s he will announce

And the world can also split in half and release the monster that's been hibernating inside since time in memoriam. Like... pointing out these incredibly rare instances as if they're at all realistic or should be on people's radar as potential to happen is so stupid.

I'm mostly curious as to how the Munchkins will look, if there will be ruby slippers (or at least red) and if they will fix the issue found in the musical that the house landed in Munchkinland and not by the corn field!
