Just got back from seeing Movin Out in Providence.
The show itself was great, I got to see Holly Cruikshank dance the lead again so I'm happy( a review later ).

Why,why, why do people feel the need to talk during the perofrmance?
You're not at a bar watching a ball game and comment on the action.
Because of the loud music the guy had to talk a little louder so his buddy could hear him.
UGH!
OK I feel better now.

People no longer see the difference in going to a play or watching tv. They are convinced a theatre is their living room.

When I saw "Streetcar", not only did a flock of punk thugs stroll in a half-hour late, but they proceeded to talk throughout most of the first act. Many audiences members (including myself) were frustrated, and complained to the management. I later asked myself what they were doing there in the first place.

I think maybe some ushers aren't doing their jobs...

The whole murder thing, is very appealing in those situations.

The other sad thing was since the female dancers were showing lots of leg, he was making dumb comments like he was at a strip joint or something.
I was directly in front of him so it annoyed me more.
Show a little class.

i was at wicked and a tone deaf girl sat behind me who thought she was idina and proceeded to sing EVERY note that she sang. Yes, murder is acceptable in this case i think.

I have no problem turning around and asking someone if they thought I paid X amount of dollars to hear THEM, or to hear the play......it usually shuts them up.

Haha Bronx,

I was in the 4th row and I certainly appreciate Holly's legs too, but just show some respect for the other folks sitting near you.

I think that , along with refreshments, ball peen hammers should be rented in the lobby & when the offender speaketh, you whacketh away repeatedly on the head singing "Murder Murder" from J/H all the while

I almost went off on this flaming queen (no offense intended, because I'm a flaming queen) at Chitty Chitty Bang Bang on Wednesday evening. He came into the theatre talking at the top of his lungs. Prior to the show, he was boasting and bragging about all his theatre knowledge (e.g., stating at the top of his lungs at this family show that Cherry Jones was a big fat lesbo, and lots of expletives in his other comments). Once the show started, it was non-stop comments to the person beside him about what was occuring on stage, how good or funny a number was PRIOR to it being performed, and huge whoops and yells about how FABULOUS or INCREDIBLE something was. Could you imagine having to attend a movie or show with someone like THAT!!!!!?????

Cool...I've been around long enough for my first "repeat" thread!

It's so true... etiquette is very much out the window. It's almost as if people should get a primer before they buy tickets about theater etiquette.

Obviously, it comes down to theaters needing to get audience...any audience to fill those seats. The general lack of courtesy to me reflects a major cultural shift in so many aspects of life. Pretty soon the circus atmosphere that permeates pro wrestling permeated pro sports and then the cinema soon the theater too.

It's a bummer...especially in the Northeast.

I'm finding people are getting ruder and ruder in all facets of life. It's really quite sad. Whatever happened to manners?

Wow, that is just rude.

I hate people that sings a long. This hatred is not only restricted to musicals, but also in concerts. I paid good money to see a performance. I don't appreciate hearing anybody elses voice except for the people on stage.

I had this experience at Miss Saigon a few years ago. There was a mother and daughter sitting behind me, both Asian. The mother apparently spoke no English and the daughter translated the entire first act for her. The. Entire. Act.

I was actually a little torn about this. On one hand, maybe the mom was from Vietnam, maybe the story had special resonance for her...On the other hand, this was my first chance to see Miss Saigon on Broadway and as it turned out, probably my only chance. So I wrestled with how to handle this...during intermission, I spoke to her (the daughter). She became very offended, and I ended asking an usher to intervene. In the second act, they were quiet although I have to admit I felt some degree of guilt.

You shouldn't be. There are code of conduct that one must follow in the theater. Part of that conduct is to respect other paying customers. She is being disruptive to you. She should be the one that feels guilty.

There's a phrase now that says, "I'm just being real." This is used by many as an excuse for all sorts of rude behavior. I've seen audience members at plays call out to people they happen to know on the stage. "David! What's up man!" Now that is just ridiculous.
