"I'm fairly certain the ABC contract is exactly why he hasn't been asked to extend."
Really? Not the fact that he is out more than in these days?

I actually haven't heard that he hasn't been asked to extend. I've spoken to him and from what I understand, whether he extends or not has completely to do with how the negotiations go, which he hasn't had yet. I know he doesn't really want to do matinees anymore and I'm sure now with a Tony win he'll want to discuss his salary. So depending on how those negotiations go will dictate whether he stays with the show. I know he wants to stay but it all depends on whether they can come to an agreement that works. I don't think the contract with ABC/Touchstone has too much to do with whether he is staying or not since there is nothing really in the works for him yet.
And his attendance, as has been stated, did not used to be like this. In fact, for 7 months he had about the same attendance record as any other Broadway performer even with a very strenuous role. Dominic Nolfi even told me he didn't know how John did it that long and called him a "machine" since he knows how hard the role is. He is fighting off some nasty stuff in his throat. From what I understand it is really affecting his falsetto and if that isn't working there is no point in him going on.
yeah john lloyd young is not gonna stay. i'm almost certain.

So, does his contract actually end on Oct.1 or Oct.6 ?
Pretty sure it's Oct. 1st .. or at least that's what I heard out of his mouth at stagedoor.

But that's what has me confused.
In the FAQ section of his website, in answer to the question "How long will you be with Jersey Boys?", he answers, My contract with JERSEY BOYS ends October 6, 2006.
He's usually so careful about such things. If Oct.1 is his last day, why doesn't he change that on his FAQ page?

October 6th is a Friday and last shows are almost always on a Sunday so should he have a last show it is either going to be the 1st or 8th and it is looking more like the 1st. Unless he extends, which is looking less and less likely.

Okay I'd like to state a couple of things....
First, the statement about JLY having the hardest role on Broadway came from one of the interviews he did, it was one of the Reader's Digest audio only interviews(I think) that he stated and also in several interviews including the hooray for broadway he compared his vocal training to training to run a marathon even though he was going to sing a marathon. He basically sings in just about every song except "Ces Soirees-La", "The Apple of My Eye", "Earth Angel", "Who Wears Short-Shorts", "December 1963(Oh What A Night), and "My Boyfriend's Back"(if there are anymore please post), along with most of sung in falsetto, so saying that he doesn't have one of the hardest or the hardest is not really accurate.
The other thing was that JLY could in fact extend, it could be a last minute thing like the week before or a couple of weeks before. I would think that he would extend seeing that he was sick for alot and that he's actually quoting as saying that he would like to play Frankie Valli for as long as they'll let them and I really think that they'll want him to play it for awhile.
So, here's to hoping that he feels a whole lot better and that he extends.

If he continues in the show, I hope that he is well so that all his other fans have a chance to see him.
I mean Michael has NEVER missed a show, and neither has Mano. I get that his part is very difficult to do, but come on! Michael never leaves the stage the whole show and plays guitar and give a better performace any day.
yeah, what Horton siad!
I am sure the producers want JLY to stay.
$ will be the thing, sadly. usually is.
Horton, Michael has missed one show of Sweeney Todd.
JLY said to a friend at the stage door last night that he's working on extending, and to check his site.

Was JLY back in the show last night?
Im seeing the show tomorrow night. Any word on whether he'll be back by then?

I'm going tomorrow night too. Hope he is in, but seriously, I looooved Michael Longoria in the role. I'm keeping my fingers crossed harder that Christian Hoff is in it.
I would assume JLY was in the show last night if he was talking to someone at stagedoor.

Horton, first off and I have no problems with Manoel or Michael, just because they're onstage the entire time and play their instruments doesn't make them any different from John Lloyd Young or Christian Hoff(I brought up Christian basically cause you brought up Manoel and I think we know where it's going), but JLY sings basically every song in the show and a good amount of the time in the falsetto. John is on the stage a good amount of time, he's on their longer than a good amount of the other cast members including Christian, Daniel, and Bobby.
On a different subject, I'm in the process of thinking about rushing Jersey Boys sometime in September and I really hope that everyone is in, even though I wouldn't mind seeing Michael Longoria again as Frankie Valli.

Candida (thrush) is a pretty serious infection. In adults it is often a syptom of a suppressed immune system..usually associated with diabetes or HIV, so perhaps some people SHOULD cut him some slack and let him convalesce as long as necessary.

Geez. Sounds pretty serious to me.
Btw, HamletwasBipolar, you sound very knowledgeable. Are you a doctor or med student?

Worrell, if you're planning on seeing the show next month and want to see everyone, here's an FYI for you: Daniel Reichard will be on vacation from Jersey Boys through 9/11 & J. Robert Spencer will be on vacation 9/12 - 9/17.
:) I'd forgotten about Daniel's vacation, and I'm rushing next week, so I'm sad I won't get to see him again.
And eek, yeah.. that Candida DOES sound pretty serious. I'd never really looked up what it is, just knew it was bad and disgusting. LOL

My job is much more important than a doctor...for I am an actor who googled candida.
Actually, I just looked it up on webmd and what caused John's case was the use of antibiotic medication - to fight that sinus infection he had. Infact, he mentions that was the cause on his blog.
Other factors that increase your risk of developing thrush include:
The use of antibiotic medications. This may lead to thrush by altering the balance of bacteria in the mouth.
It's really gross. To put it bluntly, he basically has a yeast infection (or something like it) in his mouth and throat. .....ew. http://www.webmd.com/hw/skin_and_beauty/hw139076.asp
Holy Grandpa Stroehmann, Batman!!!
Yeah, John was right. Candida is really gross. I probably shouldn't have looked up what it was right after eating lunch because now I'm like *GAG* .. haha.

Well, I'm like thespian geek. I never bothered to google it because I've always heard it was gross and I never needed any proof.
