Can we find a Tony that isn't obviously gay? That'd be nice for a change, and Natalie Cortez would be perfect for Maria. Hands down. Fabulous actress, beautiful soprano, and she's got a grit to her that would be an interesting touch... can you imagine her performing the final monologue?
I would love to see a cast of unknowns, with the exception of whoever plays Anita, because as mentioned before, Anita is too much of a dancing role for someone without a lot of professional experience.
Though as far as more known people, Groff might work. And he would catch the eye of some of the younger generation...
I really think that Jonathan is too... soft to play Tony... he's almost too pretty... and I don't feel like he's strong or manly enough... and I feel like his voice is wrong, very soft, very pretty... but not legit enough. if there was a mix of Cheyenne and Groff it would be perfect with a mix of Aaron Lazar and Tony Yazbeck's voice.

Are you serious? How about the original Tony, Larry Kert? Or Brent Barrett and Stephen Bogardus both understudies in the revival? Did they seem gay? And since when does Groff appear gay?
I hadn't even thought of Natalie Cortez until someone else suggested her, so I think I've changed my mind. Krysta Rodriguez as Consuelo, and Natalie Cortez as Anita?

I chose, and my world was shaken- So what? The choice may have been mistaken,
The choosing was not...

I am really hoping Laurents isn't just pulling our chain with his claim to make this production different. I would love to see this as a modern day spin with African-American Jets and Hispanic Sharks...I would love to see Rosie's idea of KAnye if they take this twist. Maybe bring in Kanye for the Jets music and Carlos Santana for the Sharks music to really make the arrangements more authentic. It would definately strike more of a resonant chord with audiences of today. My vote is for Elijah Kelley as Tony! Get him to broadway!!
broadway isn't exactly known for casting people that are the same age as the characters they play. one of the biggest examples is grease! the cast is usually way older than what there suppose to be. Updated On: 5/5/08 at 03:37 PM
I'm all about Michael Arden or Aaron Tveit as Tony, although Groff would be fine too. What about Katrina Rose Dideriksen as Anita? I'd love to see that.
