I agree with some of you... the movie is horrible, but I can't help but love it! The musical theatre in my soul. Ha!

I've only seen one scene from the movie (One) but I don't know what they were thinking making this into a movie in the first place. It's a great show but you're staring at people surrounded by blackness for two hours (in the movie, that is). What is compelling onstage can be extremely boring onscreen.

WonderBoy, I LOVE that you put that picture of Vicki!

As for the person who said they could have sworn they used the golden stage door, you're right. The exterior theatre shots were done on 45th street, while the interior theatre shots were done at what is now the Times Square Church.

I hadn't seen a stage production or heard the OBC when I first saw A Chorus Line at the age of 17, so I didn't know better and I loved it at the time. I, of course, now know the major flaws in it, but I can still enjoy seeing it from time to time for nostalgic purposes. And I really loved some of the cast, particuarly Vicki Frederick as Sheila, Cameron English as Paul (had a huge crush on him), Pam Klinger as Maggie, Michelle Johnston as Bebe and Yamil Borges as Morales. Other than Vicki here and there, I haven't seen any of them since. Anybody know what happened to them? Have they done any stage work? Oh, it was also fun to watch it and know that Nicole Fosse (as Kristine) was the offspring of the master Bob Fosse, even if she wasn't particularly good in the role.

CJR ~ You know how I feel about Vicki!!

Michelle Johnston (Bebe) was in SHOWGIRLS as Gay, the dance captain. Anyone notice that some of the "Goddess" choreography looks like the Bebe solo in the beginning of the ACL film when she is called out to demonstrate to everyone else?

The interesting thing about the stage version is that they used some movie techniques on stage. The staging and lighting were brilliant.

Poor Vicki Frederick, a wonderful actress who hasn't been too lucky in film and TV. She was the best thing about "Chopper Chicks in Zombie Town" though.

Haha Poor Vicki nothin lol She's done very well for herself. I know for a fact she's been approached for different projects and turned them down. Last I saw her, she was very happy with where she is at this point and time in her life.

what don't you like about the 'a chorus line' movie?

I know, I've been trying to get CJR to convince her to re-emerge on the Broadway stage again, can we say Roxie anyone? She would kick ass and take names later in that role! She was one of the finest triple threats to emerge in the 70's-80's. She was my first Cassie in ACL and she was beyond the best that I have ever seen on Broadway or in productions that I have done.

Let's not forget her performance as Iris in ALL THE MARBLES too!

She was approached for Roxie at one point and turned it down.

Jar, she's in banking.

I saw Pam Klinger in Beauty and the Beast a couple of years ago...I think she was playing Babette, the French maid/feather duster. (Either that or the wardrobe. But I think it was Babette.)

Pam was also in the chorus of Tommy for a long time.

At least the girl works.

I'm glad she's happy. I'm sure she got into banking because she had such bad luck with movies and television. She was still the best thing in Chopper Chicks. BTW I am not devaluing her talent--I'm devaluing movies and television for not knowing what to do with her.

Haha Actually, she left show business when her daughter was about 5. She went into banking for something to do. I've never known Vicki to be the kind of person who can just sit around and do nothing. Last I heard, she was still teaching different classes as well -- yoga, aerobics and sometimes dance.

OMG I saw that drivel back in the 80s. I'm going to have to rent the DVD to revisit all that was awful about it. Two things stand out though as particularly awful. One the casting of Michael Douglas who added little to the movie and the casting of Audrey Landers who would later become the scourge of the TV show 'Dallas'. If there's anything worse than one Landers sister it's two of them LOL. Everytime I saw either on the tube I instantly felt sorrow for some down on her luck actress with a modicum of talent that lost out to Bimbo#1 & Bimbo#2. Does anybody on here remember sister Judy Landers in the TV series 'Vegaz' and 'BJ and the Bear'? If you aren't old enough to remember just try to guess at the type of jokes that were made out of Judy's connection with a series bearing the initials "BJ" in the title.

PS: This is gonna be a bit mean but someone in the office just pointed out that screen actress extraordinaire Tori Spelling bears an uncanny resemblance to Judy minus 'the rack'.

"and the casting of Audrey Landers"

This casting was so bad that when you look at some of the group dance numbers, Landers isn't even in them because she couldn't handle the choreography.

When this movie first came out, a critic wrote that one of the major numbers, "What I Did For Love" was just thrown away." I agree. It was sung in such a casual "Let me just get thru it" way. But the movie was decent, and the final number was wonderful. I don't know the woman's name, but I loved the character of the sort of glamorous older dancer. The one that was told to get her butt back on stage, when she was taking a break. Movie musicals are not as awful as people say they are. For example, people say that rosalind russell was awful in Gypsy, but she was not.

Let's all agree that, if you are filming a musical, you shouldn't have to use body doubles for the dancing, because you would only cast people who can dance.

And let us not forget Blaine Savage, who danced in Bob Fosse's "Dancin'", as the guy who has to leave the audition because he is also a waiter.

I dislike all the cuts and the new 80's choreography.

I dislike the Val and the Cassie (although that's mostly because of her hair in the flashback sequence).

The Sheila was the film's strongest actor.

I also disliked WHAT I DID FOR LOVE being changed to a love song for Cassie. HA!

Oh, and SURPRISE is a horrendous song.

I remember seeing the original production in New York as a (semi) young girl. It was one of the most exciting nights of my life. The movie was a such a let down. I couldn't believe some of the changes that were made!
